RIT Dye Question

Post by Modern Jones »

Anyone have experience with RIT dyes? :-k

-Is it permanent?
-Can you wash clothes afterward and they won't bleed?

P.S. Post your experiences ... successes/failures. Any info would be great!

Skip,
I have used it to dye a MK VII from tan to green, and it worked great. Its not the best dye, I dont think, simply becuase its just a powder. I tried to dye some shirts black and they came out grey and splotchy. To answer your questions, yes its permanent, and you would need to wash the item a few times by itself to let it bleed out.

Hope this helps

Only permanent until you use rit color remover. And the Liquid rit dye might work better, though I don't know.

IndySkip,

I'm amazed that a staff member doesn't even realize he's livin' less then 30 minutes from the RIT Dye master himself... :D

PM me with any questions.

Yes and Yes are the answers to the above questions.

You'd be amazed by the things I DON'T know! =P~

We'll have to get together for a "Zen Master" Rit discussion!

I've used Rit dye on so many things my finger tips are perminantly colored  I just got done bleaching and then dying a web belt, but have done khaki's, a bad and various other things. I only use the liquid stuff though, works great when all you need is a color change.

How did you dye the pants? I've got some olive chinos that are not quite right, and I want to change them.

basically used the dark brown rit dye and mixed in 1/3 of the scarlett rit. Then swished the pants in it until I thought it looked good. Then to dull the color a bit I used black dye and dipped the pants in it a bit. A couple of washes and I have a good likeness to last crusade pants.

Do I have to bleach them or something first to get the olive color out, or should I just do it like it is?

I guess that all depends on what you would like. I'd probably bleach them overnight before dying them though.
