The shape of this zipper pull here: http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/7426-24.jpg
looks to me like the zipper I have on my CS jacket: http://www.bilder-hochladen.net/files/7426-2q.jpg
except for the color

Yes it could be the same shape as on the CS. The screen shot is impossible to draw a conclusion on it being bell shaped.

Im not sure how I am suppose to read our message orb? why the caps? that pisture shows to me a brass zipper with the sun on it making it shine to a silvery zipper.

tell me what color does this zipper show?

edit:Image

I just watched LC now and it does show a kinda greyish zipper in some scenes. not silver and not brass. but greyish. so the brass may give a apperance as silver. it can happen. especially if they have distressed it....

and what I know is that the smithsonian has a brass zipp. that i KNOW. and I STAND my ground on that! no use to argue with me on that....

Why does nobody talking about the zipper pull?
I mean this part does look nickel for sure and a golden tone or brass zipper with a nickel pull wouldn't made much sense IMO.

I don't know? there are some shadows on the zipper. Some more shiny parts, some darker. A smaller picture would help ](*,)

Light brass you say.. hmm..

so there you go. this zipper is actually an dark antique bronze colored brass zipper. so you see that this dark brass can look silvery or 'ligth brass'

so imagine what the lighter golden colored zipper might look in direct daylight?

why is that highly unlikely? you can see the flash at the top of the glass window. stand in front of a window and you will have the same effect.
My bad - I thought you were commenting on Ford and Connery outside.
Additon - IMO it's a champagne / light brassy zip with a nickel / silver pull thingy.

If you look back at the photo of the TN Raider jacket wested had or has, you can see the nickel zipper can look 'gold-ish' or light brass too.

from Holt's two side by side photos we can see a Brass zipper can look very light, possibly light enough to be perceived as nickel.

Again, it comes down to reality vs. the way it appears it the movie. I'd either simply be picking one to be a match for the Smithsonian, or colour matching the was it looks, inclusive of any colour grading, etc. Reconciling the two is likely to cause headaches that are unlikely to be resolved, IMO.

But I guess that's not the fun, is it? :)

something else to talk about.

Is it just me or are the sleeves tapered on the LC hero while the smithsonian jacket has wider sleeves at the lower arm?

Back to the pocket placement...
Holt don't you think the pockets are really odd placed?
I think it wouldn't make sense getting the pockets centered by the zipper.
How do you think about this?

yes they are odd placed. thats one of the things that is really funny about the LC jacket. they are not sewn in on the same placement on both sides of the jacket

The pocket placement is interesting, but not without a historical basis. There was a maker of A-2 jackets during WWII who did similarly. The link here gives a good description of that:

http://www.goodwearleather.com/pages/a2_dubow.html

I know it has no bearing on the reality of movie-making, but it's nice that such a thing was going on in reality. By the way, this jacket maker was in Chicago, so maybe Indy needed a quick replacement while there and this is what happened.

The pocket position is also interesting, as Dubow would often position them with even spacing from the cut edge of the wind flap, not the zipper.
Most likely what happened with the LC which is why when unzipped the placement looks 'odd'

Same as on the CS jacket. The only right way to go
It just depends on the right pocket size/pocket flap shape/size and it will look great!

Okay, let's talk LC pockets.

Han's are great but not quite there yet.

I have found that TN's Radiers pocket flap has pretty much made the jacket for me (the lamb I won't mention again beacuse I still don't see it on screen even if it is correct, which it probably is :Plymouth: ) but the little details are what make it work, I think. No one quite got that flap right until TN.

LC Pockets Key Questions

What size do we think?

Where does the flap end in relation to the pocket?

How deep is that flap?

Is the flap wider than the pocket, like Han's (which is much wider) or is it just a little wider?

Shape of the scalloping?

Is there piping on the top of the flap - I think there is just a seam.

Let's describe the placement. How far from bottom; how far from windflap; how far from zip.

I only mention Han's becasue it is such a good job and he has given us great photos to provoke discussion.

Holt, you're on top of this - what are your estimates?

We need a good model/diagram kinda like platon's raiders drawing that has the proportions of pocket to flap correct so a person could email the size and shape to Peter when ordering a LC.

I sent a modified Platon diagram for my raiders and Peter and crew did it spot on....

the pocket is to tall. its like a CS pocket with a close enough LC pocket flap.

the flap is beefy but alittle to pointy and the piping is to thick.

and the placement is wrong.

I don't think there is piping on the LC jacket pocket. The pocket shape appears square and the flap with a rounder tip.

Plus, it has a very nice distressing.
