Lookey what I got
S&W 2nd Model Hand Ejector in .455 (shaved to .45 dang it), with multiple Commonwealth proofmarks. Yes those are gold medallions, just tarnished pretty heavily. Won it today for $350 on GunBroker. I think it went cheap because the seller had it posted only a couple of days, plus he had it listed as a 1917.
WooHoo! Bapty here I come (when my wallet has recovered sufficiently to have it done right)!

She's a beauty! But please get a replacement barrel if you're gonna chop it down. Especially since it's got Commonwealth proofs as such, which isn't an everyday find. That way, you still maintain the value and integrity of the gun years down the road by having the ability to keep it all original.

No sweat, Bink; a replacement barrel is the plan I'd have to turn in my history teacher's card if I ruined a vintage military firearm just to make it look like a movie prop.

Ahhh.......you beat me to it. I was gonna bring up the replacement barrel as well. Heck, I couldn't bring myself to cut the web strap on my original MKVII bag ( I pulled the stitches instead ). Very nice pickup, RZ - it looks to be in really good shape. Here's hopin' your wallet gets healthy soon so we can see some finished pics.

RZ - Great Find!! I saw that gun on GunBroker also. Surprised you got it at such a great price! Getting my 1917 last month for $330 surprised me too. Looks like this economy has reduced the buyers out there so some good deals are happening especially for those "no reserve" auctions. So we are both now in the same situation deciding on how to shorten our revolvers!
Have you thought about looking to acquire the TOD Colt Official Police .38? I'm starting to look to see what I can find. Might as well try to get one before everyone else here at COW realizes that that is the TOD gun. Surpriisng to see not much reaction to your thread about it.
Keep us posted and be sure to post some more pics when you get it in hand!!

Re: Lookey what I got
I've got a S&W M&P .38 with swivel and 4" barrel. That's a pretty close combination of the two reported choices for Indy's TOD gun, so I think I'll leave well enough alone for now.
Yeah I'm suprised by the lack of interest in the TOD gun info. Puzzling . . .

Well, lookey there, not bad at'all. Gunbroker's my place of choice for purchasing guns, that, gun shows, and local classifieds.
