My New Whip From Adam Winrich

Back in tha late summer at the Bristol Ren Faire, forum friend and my mentor/teacher, Adam "Crack" Winrich offered to make me a whip after seeing my enthusiasm for the hobby/sport. I quickly agreed-dah!

After a long wait, which, by the way was well worth it, I give you my new 8 foot, 16 plait, tri-color whip! You may now all have permission to drool and be envious!

The whip cracks like thunder, is perfectly balanced and is a little on the heavy side (by design) as I am used to my 14 footer! It is so sweet and I cannot thank Adam enough for the time and effort he put into this whip. I really feel I have a very special one of a kind whip and am lucky to have made friends with Adam.

Your whip is done, and I should make it to the post office today or tomorrow.

Thanks for posting pics of the whip.

In the overlay of this whip I used techniques that I learned from Chris Barr, including trimming the strands with gauges as you go so that the taper of the strands fits the whip better than if the strands were tapered first.

I usually don't get too jazzed by multi-color whips, but the colors Adam
used on yours look good - very earthy and native, reminds me of the
bands on a coral snake. Congrats on a fine purchase!

Solent-The coral snake is the exact look Adam told me he was going for. He certainly nailed it because many people, whip and non whip, have all remarked that it reminds them of a snake. I also agree very natural and earthy. Pride of the collection!

Great looking whip . . . it does look like a coral snake. It would have been a cool finisher if it had a snake head for the fall hitch but I don't know how durable that one is compared to the standard hitch.

You said that you use gauges as you go, do you mean as you cut out the set or as you plait?

Herr Jones,

The strands are all trimmed to a uniform width with one gauge after they are stretched and split. Then, as the plaiting progresses, they are trimmed with smaller and smaller gauges to get the taper.

Beautiful whip. Like someone said above, I usually don't care for colored whips either, but those colors have changed my opinion of them. Well done, Adam.

Well, you could paint the turks head to look like a snake's head.
