The final word on gussets: standard or not

I've found some conflicting reports on the gusset issue on the Authentic Raiders Wested Lamb. Some posts have said the garment comes with gussets regardless of specifying them and some have said they needed to specify.

I ordered my jacket mid-September, so if any standard has been set in the past regarding gussets on every jacket, I guess that'd answer my question.

So the basic question is: Are gussets standard on a Raiders Authentic Lamb?

Guessets are not standard. And they weren't standard when I asked Peter last week.

Just because it's not standard doesn't mean it's no good. If you can, add guessets to your jacket. It'll help with movement(ie. driving).

Just e-mailed Peter at Wested and he said I caught him just in time to add the gussets. Whew! This jacket business has me sweating bullets. Just when you think you have everything nailed as far as accuracy, you find out a new fact on COW.

Well, you'd have been accurate either way, as some of the jackets had gussets, some didn't. Regards. Michaelson

Michaelson -

I'm sure I read somewhere (possibly Chapters 4&5

) that Peter didn't put gussets in any of the jackets he made for ROTLA, but they were added later by the wardrobe dept. - is that true to your knowledge? And if so, why did they decide to add them?

Getting a jacket screen accurate can become a real chore. Because if you have your jacket one way, it's in a certain set of scenes...if you have it another way, it's in another set of scenes. It's good to know that these slight variations guarantee we all basically have a jacket used on screen in one way or another. Getting THE jacket is a wild goose chase, in my opinion, albeit a fun one.

From what I understand, they were added on all the stunt jackets, as well as a few of the jackets that Ford wore when he was doing whip and stunt work himself. As you say, Peter has stated they didn't leave Wested that way, but were altered by the studio folks as required. Regards. Michaelson

Yes, I was speaking with Lee Keppler last night about the jacket details. He was very well versed in its construction. I originally just called to order a bag strap, but I couldn't help but asking him questions regarding the jacket. It's hard to resist when someone has such knowledge in an interesting profession.

I'm glad to be talking to everyone on this board in one way or another. I've already learned so much!

I have to put in a good word for Peter regarding gussets because he is adding them at the last minute. All the positive feedback regarding his craft is for good reason.
