Alden 405's!

For those of you who have been following my Alden story, you will understand why I HAD to announce the arrival of my boots.

I have tried on and sent back boots twice. They were either too big or not wide enough. My "correct" size was back ordered for 3 months, only to later find out that they would be once again back ordered indefinately.

I wanted the "new" brown, and would have to wait some more. My size is not a stock item anyways and they couldn't even get me old stock, so I had to decide to wait forever, or order what WAS available.

I decided to get a half size bigger in the old "pumpkin" colour and see what happened.

Well they arrived less than 10 minutes ago and the size is PERFECT! The colour isn't bad either. They are a rusty brown with white stitching (which I will darken) but the colour isn't that far off the 2 browm pairs that were sent! I am wondering if these were hanging around in the factory for a while? I was expecting an "orange" colour.

Anyways I am one happy camper now, and my 8 month quest for Aldens is at an end.

Congrats Janice. I'm glad they turned out to be worth the wait.

I'm moving this to general gear where it's more appropriate.

Color-wise, Janice, those are identical to my new ones (well, my only ones, for that matter) I received some months ago, but after the new color was out. I specifically referenced the new vs. old pumpkin and told them what I was expecting. Those (and mine) are anything but pumpkin.

Congratulations on your happy feet.

Well, Janice, you can always use the comment I make to my kids when they're making fun of old Dad's lilly white legs in summer...'...sure, make fun, but at least they're keeping my tail end up off the ground!'. SO, enough with your legs...they're doing you a fine job! :D Regards. Michaelson

Out of curiousity, what size are those? I wear an 8 1/2-9 (women's), and I'm wondering if I could get a pair that would fit me. Of course, I plead the "poor grad student" excuse again, and I won't be able to afford them for some time, but it'd be nice to know that I can get Aldens that fit when the time comes.

I will get some pics from the side, and inside tomorrow :D

MaryonRavenwood,
I wear a mens 7.5 - 8 nike, womans 9 and a 6.5 EE Alden.
You can get them in a 6. That's the smallest they make them. That should work for you. :D

I tried a few sizes and thought I needed a 6, but these are perfect.

Say, that new brown is beautiful! Much better than the 70's naugahyde color used heretofore.

But why does everyone want to darken the white stitching? I'm quite partial to it.

Well, that's the funny thing, these aren't the "new" stock. The new stock have brown stitching and they haven't made that size in the new brown yet. They may actually be OLD, OLD stock. I'll get a pic of the heel stamp and hopefully find out why they aren't pumpkin.

Pretty sure the new stitching is "pink", or very light brown. These are mine. Let's call it pink mocha. In some light, very light, in other light, almost chocolate milk. Anybody else hungry...

Um Cab,
I don't see a pic

Here are the pics as requested. Hopefully the heel stamp will solve this.

Yeah, after I read my post, I should have changed it. "These are mine" would lead one to believe I am referring to upcoming pictures, when I was actually saying, "that's how mine are."

Sorry about that.

But whether white or pink or brown, don't they feel good?! I've got the slipping tongue thing going on, which I plan to correct via a stitch, but I am sure pleased with them.

Cab

p.s. Could be the light or exposure, but that looks like a completely different sole. Does it actually appear laminated, but just doesn't show in the pics?

And now, some pictures:

Here are a couple - The first, I got the boots in by accident; my subject obviously didn't get priority focus as far the camera was concerned. Look how dark the leather appears here. The second, just a few minutes ago. I guess neither of them do a great job of showing the stitching color.

There's a big bright window to the right of the pic. It's most likely just the sun. Here's another angle:
