My Winston 360 Raiders hat!(#1-with pics)

Post by mark seven »

Here's some pics of my new Winston 360.
I jumped at the chance to own a Fed IV,reblocked, finished, and bashed by 3thoubucks..the care and attention to detail that he put into this hat is extraordinary.
The first thing I noticed was how light this hat is compared to the reg Fed,the felt has been sanded thinner all over and it is so light and soft(I was wearing the hat yesterday in very strong winds and the front of the brim was blowing right up against the crown-something that never happens with my reg Fed).
The detail is amazing. Some of the crown has been transitioned into the brim giving the front of the brim real Raiders character, the sweat and ribbon have been tightened, and I love the channel under the ribbon on the front of the hat.The bash is awesome.
The top dent is right down at 3 1/2 inches at the back, and the best thing is,it doesn't pop-up like the my reg fed because of the thinner felt( and the liner has been removed).
I've trimmed the brim to suit my face. The brim was still flat when I got it so I'm still working the brim(the back will take some time to get right),and defining the front pinch, but I know this hat is going to develop bags of character.
The hat is a tight fit but it's not at all uncomfortable to wear because it was finished on a block that was made exactly to the shape of my head(I had to measure the width of my head between boxes and then use tin foil to get the exact shape of my head).
I love this hat so much,I think this is my fave of all the hats I've owned,I keep catching little details in the mirror that just scream Raiders to me.
I've always admired the work that 3thou has done with his own hats, so it is a real privilage for me to own a hat made by someone who cares so much about the Raiders hat.
Big thank you to 3thoubucks for making me a unique and beautiful hat- I'll wear this one with pride!

Happy Christmas to everyone on COW! :)

Wow, it looks like a cool and very personal bash. ;-)
I always liked Raiders style, it seems to me Raiders bash looks more of a rebel. It is very eye catching and unique.

Thanks Mark Seven- Clear, comprehensive views- but....There's a lot of reverse taper in the sides in the front view, which looks wrong. Could you roll the top bash between your fingers for a while and try and get that to pull the sides in a bit? If your head is touching the the bash and levering out the sides, you'll need to form a little bump there- If you observe reverse taper after that when it's on, just reach up and push the sides together- It should stay that way eventually. - Also, (my fault) the rear of the top bash looks off center and should probably be moved over a bit. - If you can get the hat to look significantly different, maybe you'll post more pics? :-k The side views look great, profile wise, but the reverse taper in the sides is noticeable in those also.

3thoubucks and I ALMOST had an arrangement for me to get my mits on one of HIS Fed4's but it fell through - or rather, the dimensions of my noggin' forced the deal to go nowhere...
And it just plain KILLS ME.
You rework a nice hat into an awfully nifty piece of art as far as I'm concerned, 3thoubucks... I'm sorry to say I don't own one.

Hi Mitch, I'm going to try raw hat bodies instead of Fed 4's so I can make a hat for any head shape.
