So Close....I am crying.....(Cavalry Twill Pants)
There is a dent in the carpet where my jaw hit the floor when I saw this pic in the Orvis Catalog.
These are "World War II Officer’s pants...Sewn in England...Two rear flap pockets"
The problem is they are not pleated! (Or at least don't say they are. Argh!)
The color looks correct. The cut looks correct. This was so close to being a NH substitute.
Oh well. The search continues.
Pyro.

I don't think I've ever seen officers pinks without pleats... I would guess they are proabably there. I wonder if they have a button fly. I dunno about the rest of you guys, but thats one place I don't need interlocking metal teeth.
Someone has to pick up the gear line from Noel. I don't care about the shirt, I'm making my own... but all the rest, I mean someone has to. That was the great thing about the indygear, almost everything was still available, and it was all as good as screen used. On the plus side I still coudln't afford the gear anyway. Except thats not really a plus at all.

I would think these are designed to be outdoor pants. Cavalry twill is, by nature, a hard wearing material.Renderking Fisk wrote:Orvis ? Are these outdoor pants or dressy pants?
It looks like Orvis set out to create a real adventure line of clothing. Here's a quote from their site.
"Orvis has developed a line of clothes inspired by pioneers such as Commander [John] Towers and the clothes they wore during their endeavors. We’ve chosen styles and materials modeled after the originals..."
If they had pleats, you'd be able to see the outermost pleat, since the fold occurs on the second, inner pleat. They appear to me to be unpleated, and since the copy specifies English 'hardware,' I'm bettting they are zippered as well. A button fly would be too notable not to include it in the ad copy.
In my humble opinion, anyway...

I just picked up a close alternate to these pants (for a lot cheaper). Dockers Go Khaki Relaxed Chino Flat Front (yeah, I know). Check 'em out http://www.us.dockers.com/fal03a/docker ... d_home.jsp

Interesting that the pants are English import AND made from Scottish wool- exactly like the M.B.A. pants. The wool probably comes from the same factory. In fact, I'd bet on it.
P.S.- They're proud of those jackets, aren't they?!

Orvis pants
I found these on the same web site as the calvery Twills. Both can be plain front or with plets and cost $79.00. What about these?

I know, it's frustrating to find a style thats good but no color choice or find a color but there is just one thing not right. I may buy a pair just to have "Indyesq" pants. Sage is not too bad but oh well. Perhaps I will call to see if I can get the cavlary twill with pleats. For almost $200 they "may" accomidate.

Jeff

I draw the line at pants that cost that much. Thats why I go with cotton or wool close enoughs. Not screen accurate, yet not too much. Much easier for my budget. Heck, those first pants cost more than my jacket did, and my parents were pretty reluctant on that I think the LL Bean pants are pretty good (still too high for me though :crys:). Don't know what all I'm offering, but I figured I'd say it.

It would seem that all one need do (after your tailor consultation) is order a larger size so the material is there to take in. Seems simple enough for a pro. Sorry nothing concrete, just speculation.Sergei wrote:I didn't see anything close in color, Gobler.
But I agree with Pyro, the above was the closest in color, material, drape, pocket flaps. But no pleats. I have to ask this, but is there anyway, to add pleats. This really was so close. I need to talk to a tailor.

I spoke to my tailor a few minutes ago and she said you would need 4 inches extra in the pants to put the pleats in the pants. You would have to remove the waist band and adjust the belt loops. The seat of the pants would also have to be taken in as well. She said it wasn't that hard to do cost to me $10.00.I hope this helps. You need to order them 4 inches to big in the waist !!!

Hello,
Is there anyway these pants could be ordered with pleats in them ? There is a large group of indiana jones collectors that would love your product if it was a ittle more screen accurate I really believe you could sell hundreds of more pants if the pleats were added. Please let me know after you have taken it up with the powers to be.
Regards,
Roger

Yeah, no pleats on the "pinks" that is the primary issue. Big bucks on spending on this pants and yet the pleats are missing. I do like the LL Bean First Class Twill. Color looks right, pleats are there, but this maybe minor, I think I see a pattern in the fabric. Hopefully it's not that noticeable in person. Who's going to go first?Paulcrastination wrote:Turns out we can once again turn to Jerry at WPG...

LL Bean twills
I've already ordered my LL Bean twills. If they are like the cavalry twills, yes there will be a twill pattern. That's why the call them twills. For the $50 difference, I don't CARE if there is a twill pattern.

Cavalary twills
I think someone posted there are no pleats on Bean's cavalry twills. As I look at mne I see double pleats. When ordering online from Bean, you have to check the choice boxes careully. If you don't specify pleats, you don't get them.

Re: the Orvis pants
I just ordered a pair of the Orvis Cavalry Twill Officer's Pinks; they aren't available until Jan. 30th, and then there is the delivery time, as well, but when they do come in I'll be able to answer the "pleats" & "English hardware" (i.e. button-fly or no button-fly) questions with certainty.
The Orvis Twill Field Pants are cotton and they only have one rear flap pocket (the other is a slit pocket, I think, or possibly none at all).
Warm Regards,
Erick
