Indy 4 Fedora speculations.

Post by PropReplicator »

I have a fear that is growing more and more by the hour. "What fear", you ask? The fear that we will see Indy sporting a short-brimmed 50's style Fed with a small feather in the ribbon.:(

I know we've seen a 1950's Indy sporting the "correct" Indy-style fed in MOTB, but something deep inside of me is concerned that the costuming department for Indy 4 will want to update his fed to the 50's style brim.:(

Nah. They’d never do it. They might change the details a little, but they’d never give him one of those stingy brimmed jobies. Chees

I wouldn't worry about this for two reasons.

1) its been said that he'll keep his classic digs.
2) Mystery of the Blues

HOWEVER....cg fedora???

I don't know about everyone else, but if the hat they choose doesn't have the quality and look of the Raiders or Last Crusade styles I won't be buying it.

Well, my blues won't be a mystery if they change his gear up too drastically. Part of who Indy is is the look.

I really doubt Harrison would let them put a short brim fedora on him. First he loves the character personally, and second he knows what worked and made him look good in the other ones.

The gear is so much a part of the character that it would be a bad idea to change it. They may tweek it slightly due to new weapons or gear but I doubt they'd mess too much with color or the basic gear. I personally hope to see the LC neck tie gone. I may bew the only one but I also liked HF's beard in the Mystery of the Blues episode.
Nowadays Hollywood tries to sell films based soley on an actor/actresses image instead of their performances which is a good argument on why they'll leave the gear pretty much the same.
The guys at Optimo were talking crazy and saying it would be cool to see the Indy4 hat be a different color. Something vintage and nice, just different. To me that's blasphemy. Indy's hat was, is and always should be brown. I think it always will remain the same and I like that.

I remember a 'Rockford Files' episode, where Victor Jory played a G-man or a P.I. from the late 30's or 40's, who was still on a case from that period- on his own time. He hadn't bought new clothes in 40 years. He wore an Indy style fedora and ate dog food.

I agree, Ford will most certainly have them keep to the basics. I personally would like to see a "Raiders" pinch again as opposed to the TOD or LC bash. Don't get me wrong, I like the other bashes, but the "Raiders" bash is the best. He might want to have the last installment resemble the first anyway...

Well, maybe we will have a scene in the new movie where Indy dusts-down his old gear, preparing for another adventure. Or maybe he just never stopped.
Either way, I can't imagine that his gear would change from the classic Indy style that we know and love - after all, James Bond still wears the classic Tux and Superman never even changes his undies!

Plus, MOTB keeps the classic look so that is what we can expect with the new movie, in my opinion.

No feathers......please! This ain't Robin Hood!

Alan

I don't see the hat change happening myself. For those of us with parents and grandparents who lived or grew up in the 1930's, they wore that styled fedora their entire lives, and would not change. Characterwise, Indy will be in his 50's for Indy IV, and pretty set in his ways by now, so him changing to a narrow brimmed fedora now just isn't what actually would happen, if they plan to stick with realities, and the realities of that is that the narrow brimmed fedora really didn't catch on until the mid to late part of the decade. Wide brim was still popular, but the crown was adopted for to more of a tear drop style than the fore/aft bash. JMO. Regards. Michaelson

Watching the Discovery Channel there were plenty of wide brim tall crown fedora's through 1955... at least.

Jimmy Stewart always seemed to stick with fedora that looked like they were 30's or 40's style even in alot of his movies from the 60's
