What do we all have??

Post by darthbish »

ok, I know that some of us may have more than one hat...(If you do, vote twice)..
I'm just curious as to the breakdown of members and hats.

I'll stick to the manufacturers, I'm not really concerned with the "models"

I have a Christy's only at the moment, but will probably order an Akubra in the next few weeks.

I recently bought a Federation IV, my first "real" Indy's hat (my Dorfman was a glorious hat but, IMHO of course, it is not a "real" hat...).
For the future: I will surely looking for an AB (Crystal Skull opening scene). ;-)

I voted for Akubra. Have also an Henry, that is much better than the Akubra, but I feel my Fed IV is a little more compact, and more easy to wear in everyday life. For SA and costuming I prefer the Henry.

It's kind of an unfair poll, isn't it, since you can only vote for one hat? Many of us have multiple hats from different makers! ;-)

The problem with this suggestion is you can only vote once. ;-)

I'd suggest those with multiple hats vote for the one you reach for the most.

I voted for HJ but I've own all of these except Akubra & Keppler; and if you count the HJ's I bought from Lee as Kepplers, then I've owned 2 of those, too. Since there is only 1 chance to vote, this doesn't really work for me, though; most of my hats over the years were Stetson Indys, so there probably should be some way to represent them, even though they are not my favorites.

Well, I voted AB because I have more AB hats than any other Indy hat brand. However, I do still have an Akubra and I also have an HJ (Magnoli) and a JPD. I hardly wear the Akubra anymore (with 3 AB's, who has the time!), and the JPD is my "dress Indy" so to speak. The HJ gets worn mainly in the warmer months. So, the AB's get worn the most.

While I have culled my herd to only a few, these are the ones I currently own and rotate out.

Brown AB (only one, but it is one of the first ones)
Brown JPD (it IS the first one)
Brown Akubra (my first real Indy hat)
Brown GH (super nice hat, a jerk of a maker. We can't even mention his name here, or at least couldn't for the longest time)
Grey GH (vintage felt)
Grey Adam Executive (vintage from the early 40's)
Brown Jackson Hole Hat Co. (Started out at a cowboy hat, reblock into an LC style. So stiff you can drive nails with it)

Hats I used to own:
Borsalino Michaelson in brown (lost it in a move)
3 Peters Brothers custom (old rabbit felt; one in each style. They shrank so much that I couldn't wear them any more).

I've stopped buying new hats (the last one was the JPD, I think). Unless something strikes my fancy (or the wait times for an AB goes down to under millennium) I probably won't buy another.

I have a Penman, grey Christy's, Keppler and have an AB on order. I didn't vote becuase it wouldn't be fair to the ones I didn't pick.

Speaking of just Indy hats I have two AB's, a DP and a Stetson. Between them I mostly wear the two AB's. One that I wear when I know it's going to take a beating and one I wear a little more formally.

I have an AB Henry, awaiting my Magnoli HJ and while not an Indy hat, I've got the Akubra CEO for those special occasions.

All I currently own is a 15 year-old Stetson "Somethingorother"...

Since the beginning of July I've ordered (in this order):
A Magnoli Herbert Johnson with S.o.C. Bash (via Mr. Steve Delk)
A Penman Hat Co. Grey Raiders Clipper (from BendingOak)
A Jimmy Pierce Designs Raven Bar Bash

Mr. Penman's hat will reach me first (He's posted a photo of it and indicated it would be going to UPS soon)
So, the Penman's hat will be my first REAL Indy Hat! (Talk about a good decision on MY part!)

But allow me to ALSO say:
Aaaaarrrrggghhh! The LAST part of the waiting is the WORST part!!!

I didn't even mention my non-Indy hat collection... which is bigger. :[ Someone call a medic for Cammer. He is in the process of fainting.

I've gotta say that I love the fact that the Dorfman is the only "licensed" hat, and yet it so far it's a big "0"

Says something, ya think :[

Well, there's probably several owners, but when you can only vote for one hat, I'm sure they vote for their favorite or most used! It still says something, though. So far, nobody favors the DP... if they even have one.

Though my primary hat is an AdventureBilt, I also own a Herbert Johnson and a Stetson Ark. The Ark was my first fedora purchased back in the 80s. Up until then, I wore vintage hats inherited from my grandfathers.
