Hi Gus here. I have made a new budget whip. I have been working on this whip for about a few weeks. Wanted to bring back my Budget whip but since the price of the natural was a little high I couldn't. So my leather supplier gave me a great price on this type of oil tanned leather. It has good weight and is really tough great for making budget whips.
It will be 8ft long with an 8 plait overlay. This is leather is dark brown not exactly Indy colors but for the price I think it's great.
I hope to have this whip up on my website by 10/17/2008.
I am still about a few weeks before I can start making these whips. Till the end of October I will be finishing my orders. For those waiting for your whips for the past 4 to 6 weeks I will have them out this month. Thanks all for looking.
I was just re-reading the post regarding jrzjoe's whips viewtopic.php?t=34084. I own one of them and at no point have I ever been happy with it. I paid $130 for it and yes I can crack it (a pain in the rear though). It looks decent enough for costuming or to just roll out the 14ft length.
I know I frequently sound like a Caicedo fanboy. I own six of his whips and I love each one of them. I also own two Joe Strain whips and I love them too (so I do have a gauge for quality). I hope to own whips from all the master makers. For now though I am super super impressed with the performance and build of Gus's work.
Now to my point. If you are wanting a decent SA whip that really performs and does not cost an arm and a leg please consider a Gus Caicedo whip. Now that Gus is offering a budget whip I see them fitting nicely into the beginner or costumer's need.
So I encourage anyone looking for a cheap whip skip eBay or prop items and get a real whip from a super nice guy and for a super deal. I have heard the price but will wait for Gus to announce it.
This looks great, Gus! That is a great looking whip. How much will you be charging for this whip? I would like to have a companion for my my 8 ft. 12 plait Caicedo!
And this is a special price and I will keep it at this price until 10/31/2008.
But I won't be able to start production until the first week in November. I'll be busy completing orders till the end of October.
Also I am going to be taking a few days away to celebrate my 1 year of marriage with my wife.
Even though I make whips and crack them pretty good. She is the one that s me into shape.
Gus that price is awesome. $116.50 shipped for a real whip that function and will last and even has a good measure of Indy SA...that is a bargain.
Seriously, I sound like a parrot, but only because I have been down the road myself. The eBay whips have there place, but you get so much value from one of Gus's and now with his budget model it costs the same or less than eBay models.
I wish you speed on your orders and enjoy some extended time with your wife.
By the way: My anniversary gift from my wife was a matched set of 5.5ft bullwhips from Gus.
