It really is one of the best looking hats I have ever seen. Even in this standard definition photo you can tell this felt is awesome.

You are correct that the felt and hat I might add is to die for. No correct answers yet.

Optimo? Art Fawcett? A hat with felt like that has to be a custom job, I would think.

You are correct that it is a hand made hat and not a factory but not correct on who made it. Do you like how it looks?

No on both.
Bink, I expected you would have guess. You own one.
I will say that I have never even brushed the hat clean. I just wear it.

Really?
The only thing that I can think of that I own which would come close to this is the vintage mercury felt that Steve had a few of ages ago. If this is the case, the color (and styling) of mine is a bit different.

Technically, AB
Deluxe came up, which made everyone assume the
original AB was out of the picture.

very good point...I jumped the gun on the AB Deluxe being mentioned. But the felt in my opinion does not resemble a US AB. I might be way of on that, the block is spot on but the felt is just not fitting the bill in my mind anyway.

Oh, I don't know about that. I have a first production AB back when he was starting out and the felt looks pretty much like this one. The felt as also aged beautifully.

Yes it's a early AB made by Steve. I did nothing to it but wear it.
I would say to everyone who purchased a AB from Steve. Just wear your hat and this is what is waiting for you.
maybe I dig something else out and we can play again.

Then I was right in that the felt looked the same! I bet our hats are even from the same run, for I believe we received our hats around the same time. The AB
D threw off a bunch of us for a moment, though.
I agree, my hat gets better all the time. The felt is incredibly floppy and smooth. I've worn mine in heat, cold, wind, rain, snow, and hail!

Ah, I see. Very good. I love the soft comfortable look of this hat. It has that look & feel of one's favorite jacket or flannel shirt. It's just right.
Very nice indeed and some fantastic bashing work there!
Cheers!

Bink, I think your right because I got mine right after you.
Daniel Jones, Thats what I like best about this hat. No distressing just put it on your noggin and wear it.
