I made this hat at the request of a member here. I was going to wait until he posted pics, but I was down loading pics from my camera and found these. He can speak up about the hat.
It is a beaver felt brim, with a milan straw crown.
He can probably put up better pics, these are the ones I took just for my records.
I've seen hats like that before. I think the hat company is called Montana Mad Hatters. There was another one that did the straw & felt thing years agon called Theivin Vaqueros. Very interesting lid indeed. Good job Jimmy!
Jimmy,
I must apologize I am very sorry that I have not gotten to posting or even taking pictures of this outstanding hat.
Summer in south Mississippi gets very busy. I will say that it has been worn almost everyday and has seen more than a few rain storms and is still as nice as or maybe even more so than when I got it.
To everyone else,
I wear a fedora every day from when I leave the house till I go to bed at night. I wanted a straw hat that would be very cool, block the UV rays and at the same time take a fair share of rain. With that in mind I asked Jimmy to build such a hat. This has got to be the ultimate summer hat for me, the crown breathes exceptionally well and the brim has got to be the ultimate UV ray blocker. Rain is an everyday occurrence here, you can almost set your watch by it and this hybrid has weathered more than a few storms and shows no sign of it. I know at first it may look strange but to me it is about function with a little style thrown in. I need to have Jimmy build me another very soon so that this one can at least rest and dry for 24 hours.
You've struck upon a great summertime Indy style hat. What a great idea, to meld a felt brim and straw crown together. I think it looks fantastic, IMHO. Jimmy, what does such a hat cost if I wished to order one?
I applaud the workmanship and the creativity. Bravo. I also applaud the guts to wear this thing. However, I think people look at us enough just wearing a normal fedora, I can't imagine what kind of looks you get with this.

Just an observation and opinion on my part, but with the onset of the more relaxed, less formal fashion "styles" and attitudes in vogue in todays world, who really cares what other people think if you were to wear this fedora. Many of the people who might be rude enough to even give one a negative comment about your choice of dress, are the same ones who show absolutely no sense of style at all in their own choice of clothing.

I have recieved more than a few compliments about this hat.
I wore this to the local country store several times in camo shorts and a hawaiian shirt. I was on an adventure and was not sure if I would be in the woods or the flower bed.
The 'ol girl behind the counter said "Beer. bait or chew.....nice hat"
That hat is truly bizarre, but I must confess that it has charm about it. On the technical side it looks brilliantly constructed. Perhaps it's the sun but the colour of the felt brim looks stunning, like a Cadbury block of chocolate!
I bet that crown really breathes though. It looks a lot like the body of the Peters Bros. Indy Fedora & that breathes like a charm. Almost like you're not wearing a hat at all.
The straw was treated, more for shape holding than wetting but ith the same treatment. It is a natural straw, so water doesn't bother it as long as you don't mess with it too much while it is wet.
