JPD: Winchester or Cury?

Post by Aggie »

Howdy,

I'm planning on ordering a JPD fedora next month, probably a grey Venice Pier hat. Unless I have something in the closet I forgot about, this will be my first fedora.

I'm going with rabbit felt but I can't decide between the Winchester felt and the Cury felt (assuming I can get the Cury in grey). The Cury is cheaper and more durable, but possibly more likely to taper in extreme rain and steam.

I live in Texas and we don't get a whole, whole lot of rain. I'm not planning on wearing the hat everyday anyway so I'm not too concerned with rain. If it gets wet I'll lay it on it's crown and stuff it with toilet paper or something and let it dry out. I also might possibly get a shape retainer.

Can any of you offer any advice?

Go with the winchester and I would bump up to the beaver if you could.

Thanks, I'll wait on the beaver until I get out of college. The rabbit will serve my purposes fine for now.

What are the problems with Cury besides the tapering?

My experience tells me they make the bodies fast and dirty. Fedora

Well, that settles it! Thanks! Jimmy, when's a good day of the week to come visit? I'd like to come up there next month sometime to see if you can measure my head. I also want to see if you have any hats on display.
