Straw Indy Now Complete-With Pics!!!
I finished my do-it-yourself straw indy, and I had to do way more than the pictures tell. I reblocked the hat (I know, I know, the crown is short and it has some taper...its a 10 dollar hat fer cryin out loud). I dimensionally cut the brim (it looked like a sombrero before), and I replaced the ribbon. All told it cost me about 14 bucks!!!

Thanks for the kind words!
I have an antique hat block that I have had for years, but didn't know what it was untill I became a COW member. I just wet the straw and reblocked the hat the same way you would a felt hat.
I had to cut the brim stiffener and sew it back into the hat with the new brim dimensions.

Thanks alot guys!!!
I am afraid after all the praise my hat won't fit my now swollen head (is there any higher praise than high praise from Michaelson?)
I did contemplate a darker color, but in the end I just wanted an indy style straw hat. Not an indy hat that happened to be made of straw. If not going for sa then why not really have fun. My favorite indy straw by far is the PB, although I am anxious to see what jersey jones is going to turn out, and I like the seagrass look.
The only thing left to do is replace the one size fits all sweat band for a regular leather sweat (I lightly tacked the ribbon on to make this easier).
