Aldens wait time
I placed an order for my Alden 405's exactly 5 weeks ago today. I ordered them from an orthopedic store which in turn gets them from Alden's New England company. When the order was placed, the woman at the Alden factory said it would take 12-14 weeks for my size 13-D's to come in. For those of you who have gotten your boots from the New England factory, and have had a similar 12-14 week wait time, how long exactly did it take for your boots to come in? Did it take the full 14 weeks, or did they come in sooner? Im getting a little impatient and was just curious to know if anyone had the similar dreaded 12-14 week wait time.
Thanks.
Thanks.

is 13 D an odd size? it doesn't look like it to me. if they stock them in san francisco (talk to Jim), you'd have your boots in about a week. i'd definitely try shcmidty too as his cost less than the typical price.
for stock alden's i would shop around as i don't trust a store ordering it for me from the factory as it could be anywhere between 3 to 8 months.
i waited 6 months for a custom order only to find out that my imbecile sales person didn't check up on it. after i came back in 6 months, i was told that it never got into the qeue and it may be another 3 (or even 6!). i was not pleased at all. the kicker of the story is i recently went back to the guy to give him another shot at it and he acted like he didn't want the business. some salesman he is...........

San Francisco Aldens have them, but Im not paying $320 + shipping for boots. The orthopedic store that I ordered them from has been selling Alden shoes for years. He gets all his stock from the the New England factory. The guy gave me a good price of $275 so I couldn't say no. I hate waiting though.

so the true questions is........is 12 to 14 (or even more) weeks worth the $45 + $20 shipping = $65? if it is indeed the 14 weeks, thats a little more than an extra $4 a week you are looking at....or about 67 cents a day or 2.8 cents an hour
i'm extremely bad for waiting. if i tallied all the dollars i spent to get things quicker, i'd have a belstaff indy jacket, custom made aldens, and a jacka whip .....i'm just stupid that way.......

rbinko I saw this and figured I'd toss in my 2 cents. Alden, while making terrific shoes, isn't the speediest manufacturer around. But that's because the products are of the highest quality. And if you think it kills you to hear the wait time, trust me when I say that it hurts me just as much to tell you guys that you have to wait that long!! I am not very patient when it comes to waiting for things that I want, so I totally know how you feel.I've called Alden for a variety of sizes over the past few weeks, and all of them are out of stock. What's even worse (if you can imagine) is when Alden says "those aren't on the production schedule right now. I would think they'd be working harder to keep up with demand....who knows.

Just for the record, I ordered a pair of 405's from a shop here in Southern California. They did not have my size (9.5E) in stock, so their distributor had to request them from the factory. My boots arrived about 5 days later! I guess I lucked out.
BTW, what everyone says about 405's is true; these are the best fitting, most comfortable boots I've ever owned. I know they will not be my last pair of Aldens!

You did get lucky!! It all depends on the timing and the size. If you have a fairly uncommon size (like say and 8 1/2 A) then you may get them right away. Realistically though, lately, it's been they are out of EVERYTHING between a B width and a EE width. It's really becoming hit or miss (mostly miss) with their availability.
