Definitely break them in yourself. The only thing I did was spray them once with alcohol in a mist bottle. Everything else has been yardwork - and they look great.
A REAL quick fix is to put them on and rub your hands all around the inside of the bag of charcoal. Just stick your hands right into it. Rub a bit of it in then smack off the remainder of dust and you're good to go.
I purchased a pair of Wells Lamont gloves at Wal-Mart that are very similar to Todd's for a heckuva a lot less, $9.00, and after a few days working around the yard they are really looking good. Of all the pieces of gear I have recently acquired the gloves are distressing the best.

I got those very same gloves. I've got a Saturday morning full of distressing planned for them.
I picked up a pair of Todd's regular gloves (arrived today). I'm surprised how thin the leather is. Feels like a dress glove, not a work glove.
I'll probably hit the Lowes or Home Depot for a pair of decent work gloves, either with or without the palm reinforcement and throw them in my firefighting gear. They'll get a decent workout there.
