For those of you who fly with your hat, what do you do with it once you're on board? I mean, for flights over 3 hours, there's only so much time you can spend napping with it over your face. )
Flights are usually so full today, the overhead bon isn't really an option, and I'm not a fan of putting it under the seat...which really doesn't leave me many choices.
I flew many times with my hat, ones over twelve hours, and I always wore my hat when I laid back and slept most of the time. I never took a hat box or something like that with me. My hat belongs to my head
I took an Akubra with me to India in January. I kept in the overhead. I would generally create a little niche between my bag(s) and the end of the overhead compartment for it to rest in. A time or two it would get dented in slightly, but it was just a matter of popping it back out. If you wanted to be a little more careful you could take a plastic bag to slide it into to protect it from dirt and such.
During the flight I just set in on my knee or on the flip down tray. When using the tray, I use it as a prop to hold my "Zune" so I can watch movies. It holds it at a decent angle quite nicely.
It stays on my head. However, whenever I go to the theater to see a play, I place it on my knee (theater edicate and all). I do the same whenever I go to mass on Sunday or anytime necessary.
I put my fedora on the floor crown down in the storage space under the seat in front of mine. I've never had a problem with it riding there, and I've made several flights cross country this way.
Well...I just got back to Oregon from NJ. 2 flights, NJ to Denver, Denver to Eugene.
First flight - the ol' asleep with hat on head/face. Worked pretty well...a small problem though if you're used to sitting in a window seat and leaning your head against the window.
Second flight, small regional jet...a bigger pain. Slept part of the time with hat on face, and the rest, well on my knee. )
There just wasn't space anywhere else.
Again, I'd like to thank everyone for their replies.
