Wested sleeve length...
I just received my custom sized Wested yesterday. Unfortunately, the sleeves are too short. This post is NOT meant to slam Wested. I haven't contacted them yet about the situation, but wanted to know from others who've bought from them... did I misunderstand where I was supposed to measure from, or is this a mistake on their part... I asked for 24 1/4 (which in and of itself I think might have been a little short, but correctible. As it is now, I don't think there's enough extra material in the cuffs to make it look right, even if I tried to get it fixed.) Measured from shoulder seam to cuff as in the following two pictures:

I have bought from them before (6 or 7 years ago), but don't remember having issues like this then. In fact, the situation's kinda funny in that the sleeves on the new jacket are the same length as my old jacket. The whole reason for ordering a new one was because it didn't fit me right anymore...
Just for giggles, I also took front and back comparison pictures between the old jacket and the new one.

The new jacket may have to go right up on the bazaar...[/url]

I ordered a denim Indy jacket and the sleeves were actually too long, so I had them taken in. When I placed my order for my first Wested Raiders jacket, I sent the measurement from my denim jacket from the shoulder seam to the cuff.
Gemma sent me a reply stating that Peter thought the sleeve measurement was too short. I explained that the measurement was taken from their denim jacket and if the pattern is the same for their leather jacket, it should be the proper length. However, I told them to add another inch just to be sure. I'd rather it be too long than too short.
I haven't received my jacket yet, but I informed Gemma to e-mail me if there were any further concerns about the sleeve length (in fact, I might just shoot her another e-mail. You guys have me worried!).
Chimp, did you include shoulder measurements with your order? I've found that the shoulder seam on the Wested hangs about an inch lower than the point on your shoulder. If you were too specific with your measurements, that might account for the shorter sleeves.

I think Chimp stated that the sleeves on both of his jackets are the same length, which is why I questioned if he sent in shoulder measurements. If the shoulder seam is higher and the sleeve length is the same, it might account for the sleeves seeming shorter.Aeris_Canon wrote:See, that's the thing. Chimp did not get his measurement wrong. He received an inch shorter than what he ordered. The tape measure pics SHOW this. His was not a case of measuring incorrectly. He's saying if he'd received the 24 1/2" sleeves, they'd fall exactly where he wanted.
And really, HONESTLY, this is not to start a "bag on Wested" roll. If there is anyway we might be able to adjust what we send in to accomodate for the narely shorter sleeves, put the burden on us then if it has to be that way.
Do we order those longer? Or do we put the word "specific measurement please" in a parenthetical in the notes section?
(Sleeves - Please make Specific to Measurement 24.5".) <----- something like this, maybe?
I'm just trying to figure out what would help get the sleeve length requested versus a generalized length.
I filled out the custom sizing section of the website, which does not include shoulder-to-shoulder. I will take comparison measurements between the two jackets shortly. I think they are probably the same size, or very close to it, because both of them are too short in the sleeves.afrayedknot wrote:I think Chimp stated that the sleeves on both of his jackets are the same length, which is why I questioned if he sent in shoulder measurements. As for the "standard sizing" templates, and having to order larger... I think that kinda defeats the purpose of custom sizing. I was really just curious as to whether I got what I asked for and didn't realize that I was measuring incorrectly or they just plain made it shorter than I asked.
No worries either way. Things happen, and it'll get resolved one way or another, even if it means having to put this one up on the bazaar and getting another one. I'd like to see if I can get it fixed first, and e-mailed Gemma about it tonight. Like I said, at the time I wrote the post, I hadn't even tried to e-mail them yet, so please don't take this thread as a complaint.
Next time I'll just send them pictures like the sleeve ones above.
As for the creation of this thread ...Aeris_Canon wrote: I don't know if it's not as big a deal to Chimp than he says since a thread was started about it in the first place. In my case I'd tried for a very long time to just take care of it via email.
Usually when things like this happen, it is because I messed up somehow. I know that's the low self-esteem way to look at it, but it actually does end up being the case more often than not. This was intended to be more of a PSA for anyone else ordering, so they can see where I might have gone wrong and avoid the same issues. Perhaps in this case I didn't go wrong at all. I was thinking along the lines of "is it 24" starting from some other place than that particular seam, or from a different place on the seam, and so forth. That's why I provided the pic showing exactly where I placed the head of the tape measure.
Additionally, although I greatly enjoy reading, I almost never have anything of consequence to say on the board, and wanted to be able to contribute something for once.
I know that if I were Peter, and someone came on the board ranting and raving about how their jacket didn't come out exactly right, without even talking to me first, I'd be pretty P.O.'ed. Sometimes mistakes happen, and it's how people respond to them that's important.
I suppose I was too over-eager to write something once I thought I had something somewhat meaningful to post.

I hope they don't see my sleeve length request of 28" and think I meant from the neck area!
Edit: Nope! Just as I asked, as measured from the shoulder/arm seam.

My sleeves are about 1" too long, but this is becuase of the natural shrink, which so far after 3 months of wearing hasn't happened...
When last talking to Peter, he said bring it in after another month and we will fix up the sleeves. it will take about 20 minutes., THough to be honest I am in two minds...lol (Shhh!) its tempting and easy as Peter is just down the road, but at the same time... it tooo tempting to go back into the barn, I might come out with somehting else.

chimp, how tall are you? just out of curiosity.. I ordered my wested with 27" sleeves. I know that's probably going to be waaay too long, but I am doing everything in my power to keep from having to send this thing back when it finally comes. if I had the option of getting either 35" sleeves or MAYBE having them be too short, I'd go with 35" and visit a tailor.
