Fuller's Earth is a very fine "dirt". How about that ! The grains are very small and adheres to surfaces very well. ToddsCostumes.com sells Fullers Earth. There's a description on the website

The creases are a tad sharp for my tastes, but otherwise you turned a DP into a better animal. Good job.

Do you mean the Akubra adventurer or Federation (new or old)? Because those are two totally different animals.

It took me quite some time before I even knew what I was doing.
I think learning to re-bash a hat on the spot is as Indy as it can get.

From the Wikipedia: :rolling:

"It also finds use in special effects when simulating explosions. Fine-grained fuller's earth makes a much larger plume than ordinary dirt, suggesting a larger explosion and allowing a smaller, safer charge to be used. In addition, it can be used to artificially age costumes, such as jackets, shirts, or archaeologists' fedoras, to make them appear older and more worn in while remaining easy to remove from the article it is applied to."

That looks really good! I've played around with mine some, but without much luck. I think I could get the tight pitch all right but trying to do something with the tear drop is horrible. Every time I try to make the center dent, the back goes down too far. I'll have to play with it some more now that I'm inspired. :)

My DP has a sewn "edge" around it as well. Did you remove the hem or did it come with the proper edge?

No this hat came with it's proper specs.
It's the fur felt model, not the wool kind.

In terms of getting the center dent that you want, You need to have the hat in open crown first. Then you place the hat on your head and slightly press down on the top of the hat.

After that, you can take the hat off and slowly crease that dent that you'd like. Apply some water to the hat to help you mold it. (the hat is really stiff)

Well i followed your lead and rebashed my fur felt dorfman. and wow what a difference, although i stayed away from the fullers earth since i wear mine daily to work.

I didn't realize when i bought it how un-SA it was, this was a much needed improvement. now i can live with it until i can save up for an AB

Thanks for the guidance. I'll try to get some picks up soon.

I know what you mean. When I purchased my fur felt model some time ago, I thought I had scored gold with it. Then I joined C.o.W and....heeeheehee.. oh' boy... was I waaaay off.

I'll say this, the fur felt dorfman is a GREAT beginners hat.
Have fun with it and beat the #### out of that lid. Just like your doing now, I started saving up for my AB soon after my dorfman reached it's last breath.

Now I have an AB and I can safely say it is the ULTIMATE hat.
 :notworthy:

BTW, welcome to C.o.W
