Room for another member?
Hi everyone,
I've been lurking for awhile and thought I should introduce myself.
My name is Scott and I live in upstate New York. I recently finished
the whip making course offered by Paul Nolan of Midwestwhips and have
since been busy setting up my studio at home. I've visited the Indygear
site many times over the years yet it was Paul that mentioned the forum
which I've managed to miss all those years!
I've enjoyed reading all the posts and pics and hope I can contribute
at some point to the discussions. Until then, I just want to give a shout out
to Paul and Lauren for their hospitality and help as I worked through making the whip. I've been out learning new routines with it and can't wait to start improving my work. If you've ever given thought to making your own, I highly recommend contacting Paul. It is well worth the experience. Thanks Paul and Lauren!!!

Thanks for the warm welcome. I took two pictures which I sent to Paul earlier as he was interested in my Aldens. As Paul said, repetition is the key to whipmaking and proper plaiting in general. As I was short on time, Paul tied the handle butt Turks head. It's not quite the shape I'd like but I know what I did wrong in shaping it and hope to correct it on the next one. I'm anxious to see how my next whip turns out. Really, the first few projects are studies in what NOT to do next time I learned a lot from Paul and Lauren. They've saved me countless hours of trial and error. (Hopefully the pics show up).

Thank you all for the kind words on my first whip. I'll post pics when I finish my next whip(for better or worse).
Lauren: I'm doing well. My studio is shaping up but I'm still waiting on some items to be delivered, one of which is lead shot. I found out it won't be delivered 'till late May early June!!! So, my next full size whip may be started sooner rather than later. I plan on building the same whip (6 ft. Indy style) so I can do a side by side comparison.
In the meantime, I'm enjoying the forum and seeing the fine work of other members' projects.
