Bulova Men's Commemorative WWII Hack Watch

Ordered one of these on Friday and it should be in on Tuesday! This watch is really sweet! The link below the description is to Bluenile.com who has the watch on sale right now for $90 which is $60 less than the list price, plus they have free 2 day Fedex shipping! Can't beat that with a stick! Lol!

In a special limited-edition, Bulova recreates the classic hack watch used by U.S. forces during WWII. A rugged fabric strap is combined with stainless steel construction for a look that is perfect for everyday wear. Features include luminous hands and markers, Swiss movement, and water resistance of 100 feet.

I bet it's a Swiss standard Unitas movement. They've been building them since WW2 (actually used them as torpedo timers). Tough as nails, and parts available forever.

It looks like it's a quartz movement, not mechanical, which is to be expected for nintey bucks. It is a nice looking repro.

The Swiss don't produce quartz movements, and this one is clearly identified as a Swiss movement. The 17j Swiss Unitas mechanicals fall easily in the $90 price range with no problem.

It's originally a $150 watch. Well worth the price of $90 I think!

The Swiss have been producing quartz movements for years. All major Swiss timepieces have the option of coming quartz. Except for possibly Rolex, I have never seen a quartz Rolex.

The hack feature on this watch is very cool also! If you don't know what that means it is so you can stop the second hand on the watch when you set the time and that way soldiers could synchronize their watches for military tactics.

US Wings offer a similar watch, but you can't beat that price on the Bulova!

Yeah... but the US Wings is 17J Swiss movement. Not quartz. Personally I like mechanical movement watches - they don't run out of batteries. I have been out in the field when the battery went dead. That is really, really bad when you use your watch to navigate the trails.

Yeah, an extra $40 for a mechanical movement is worth it, IMO. Just don't forget to wind the watch! Sometimes I won't wear my automatic for a couple of days, then I'll check the time when I wear it again and it'll really throw me off...

Great watch indeed.

I purchased one of these for each of my groomsmen last November. I don't think any of them have ever taken them off since, so if that's any testimony of their quality and appeal, let it be known!

The overall presentation of the watch is nice but yes, the movement is quartz . . . And for those of you looking for something that's WWII accurate, they're a tad bigger than the standard 1940s issue wristwatch. Just something to keep in mind.

Best,

Bulova watch update

Post by Indiana MarkVII »

Bluenile.com is temporarily out of stock of the Bulova watch. They must not have carried too many, or a flood of COWs overwhelmed them.
Here's the availability mention:

Not Available For Purchase. This product will be available in four to six weeks.
