New Alden Shoes

Post by Mr. Kent »

Hello everyone. This is my first post here. Just wanted to share a pic of my new Alden shoes I got today at the store in San Francisco. I was a little reluctant to buy them because it's a pricey shoe, but I was surprised how comfortable they were and I really liked them. I don't plan on distressing them in any way because I will be wearing these at work. Can anyone tell me how much the color will change over time?

They look great, Kent. Can't wait to receive mine. What was the service like from the salesmen? :junior: -M

Welcome aboard Mr. Kent
That's two good looking pieces of gear you have there. Who made your whip?
The shoes will probably darken some over time, you don't have to use colored shoe polish. Use Pecard, it will condition the leather without coloring it to much.

Best regards

Hey Mulceber,
The service was really good and attentive. The gentleman was telling me how the indy boot is their #1 selling shoe, especially lately with the new movie coming out. I left happy (except my wallet) and will probably return if I ever need to buy another dress shoe.
K on the Run,
The whip pictured is an 8 ft. David Morgan. Also, if I use pecards on my shoes, how long do I leave the dressing on them before wiping them clean? and how often? Thanks.

Did you deal with Jim Smith? The San Francisco store has been an Indygear supporter since we started the site. Nice folks over there.

I suspected it was a Morgan :D
I have a cotton cloth saturated with Pecards that I use for my Aldens, I keep it in a zip bag between use. Just give them a good wipe when they look dry or needs cleaning. Never apply it if they are wet, let them dry at their own pace then give them some Pecard from the can and wipe of any excess after a hour of necessary.

I visited the SF Union Square Alden Shop (dressed in full gear, mind you) on St. Patrick's Day back in 2002, where I met Jaimee from IndyFan.com. We went inside and looked at the boots (I was already wearing mine), and I bought a few pairs of extra laces. The service was very nice, although the counter salesman seemed a bit aloof. Maybe he didn't know what to make of us. But it was a very nice store, and I would gladly return if I am ever in San Francisco again.

Thanks K, that was helpful...

Michaelson,
The individual that was helping me (according to the receipt) was Robert. Hopefully he wont mind me mentioning his name. Very nice and helpful.

Whipwarrior,
To be honest, I'd probably be aloof too if you came into my store dressed in Indy gear. But who cares, it's San Francisco. I would think that people from there or are living there are more tolerable to peoples appearances and differences. I almost did the same thing when the Indy DVD box set came out around Halloween a few years ago.

Mr. Kent, those are great looking Aldens, mine look darker when I first got mine, and they are actually starting to darken up more the more I wear them. I agree with K, I would pick up some Pecards and put them on the shoes/boots. I did for my purchase and it works great. When you are applying Pecards to the boot/shoes, I would just put the Pecards on and after you have finished put them in a warm area to let the dressing soak in. Let that sit overnight and wipe the excess Pecards off and buff with a shoe brush and your ready to go. I do have the cloth I first wiped them down with and I never thought about putting that over the shoes after a little use, may have to do that, thanks for the advice there K.
I also had Robert over there at the San Francisco shop, nice gentleman and they did a great job getting the right size for my Aldens. Would gladly buy from that store again. Nice boots/shoes you have got there Mr. Kent.

Hey everyone!

Back to the forum after a LOOONG absence. Just wanted to reply to Michaelson. I actually work about four blocks from the Alden shop in San Francisco, and I remember it was Jim Smith who helped me with my Alden't back in 1999. I remember simply because my dad was also named Jim Smith!

Anyway, still have my Alden's. Don't wear them so much anymore as I have replaced the heel so often that the souls are nearly beyond the ability to sand down. Nice to hear about the refurbinshing policibilities. I might have to look into that.
