wested problems

wested problems
i have read on alot of boards that people have alot of problems with wested jackets ie different color on sleeves than body and problems with customer service. what is everyone elses opinion. thought about getting one but if there is all kinds of problems why bother

I have to agree with gater here...use the search option and read what's been said around here.....I my self love the jackets from wested...
especially the special offer ROTLA jacket..
if you see what a GREAT job wested did on Erri's jacket,then you have seen one of the most screen accurate jackets ever been posted...or made?...
off course I speak my ow nopinion and I can not speak for others..some may find that the jacket was not 'THAT' SA afterall....so...getting down to the point....it's just making up your own mind and finding out what you want....and who you want to purchase the jacket from
I have never had any problems with wested.........well yes one....I did not get any rectangular sliders i asked for....but that has been fixed

Has anybody had any issues with Wested not responding to emails? I had sent wested an email 4 days ago, and have not yet received a response. I ordered a raiders jacket in horsehide, and the confirmation email had it listed as goat, so i sent an email to them, asking to correct it, and like i said, have not received a response yet. just wondering if anyone had had this issue previously, and if i should worry; because i would really love to not have to send it back for it being the wrong hide. Thanks for any input,

What the others have said goes for me, too-- I've had 3 jackets made by Wested, only 1 of which I am happy with, despite the fact that I too was mistakenly sent D Rings instead of sliders and, unlike Holt, I had no luck getting the correct number of sliders despite several complaints.
I've also had email problems; several were never answered, 1 took Peter 2 or 3 months to get back to me. So personally, at least up to now, I can't recommend Wested to others.
But studying the other threads posted here, I find many people who swear by the company, love Peter and buy jacket after jacket from him. Some of these people experience problems too, but they overlook them because they know they are going to be buying more jackets anyway.
In my opinion, if Wested were to improve their service just a little (and maybe they are starting to do that due, at least in part, to some loud complaints from this board), they would be a sensational, unbeatable company.
But that's only my opinion, and others will vary. That's what makes COW so great. There's a ton of information here that you can access to form your own judgments and make the right choice for you. And there's room for fans of all the jacket vendors-- Wested, Todd, US Wings, Flightsuits, Tony Nowak, et al-- and no one will judge you for expressing your opinions because, after all, that's largely what COW is for.

very good point.
I know that there has been some questions about why Peter does not reply on emails?...honestly I dont know...I have had the same problem with him....and that bothers me just a tad cause when he doesnt reply on mails....I have to call him...and that's much more expencive for my part

Yeah, I've had this problem- inquiring as to whether my jacket had been shipped- no response... but I just saw it go through on my credit card though.
I sent an email requesting rectangular sliders as well. We'll see how that goes!
That being said, I can understand to some extent the pressures on Peter. Running a business like this cannot be easy and keeping up with all the requests (in some cases crazy requests) would be difficult. To hire more staff is expensive and may raise the price of the jackets we buy- which are offered at a reasonable price in my opinion...

Hey thanks to everyone for the quick response. I personally am drawn to wested because to me it has that allure of being the manufacturer of the original film jacket, which to me is the holy grail of indy jackets. i also had a wested about 2 years ago, and it was simply amazing, although it was too big (mom ordered it for me for christmas, and seems to think i have a chest like Arnold).

Hi guys. I don't want to get swept up into a debate or anything defending Wested, but I'm another person really impressed with them. I only bought one jacket from them, and did so in person (well, two, but one's an old cotton Raiders one), and was extremely impressed with the service I got.
But while I was there, Peter did mention that they struggle to meet demand because they're extremely busy. He said that they can't always respond quickly because they're literally swamped, compared to other Indy jacket companies that are more specialist and so less busy. I suppose it makes sense if you consider it, that Wested still do movie jackets, other jackets apart from Indy ones, custom made ones, and are still the first 'name' people go to if they want Indy jackets, so are the most popular for that too. Peter said they send out something like 16 or 17 jackets a day, which might not sound too much, but when they're leather jackets that often have to be custom made, and the shop is run by a small number of staff, you can imagine why it takes time to respond and stuff.
Just remember a lot of people e-mail Peter, and Wested is very popular, so sometimes they can struggle to meet demand.
Sorry to suddenly come in defending them, but I thought since it was something Peter mentioned to me, I could explain a little. I love my Wested jacket, and I love the service I got when I visited, and Peter's a fantastic guy. I'm sure he doesn't mean to ignore your e-mails or anything, he's just very busy, and once you get in contact with him, he's one of the nicest guys you could ever have to deal with! They're always willing, if there's a mistake with the jacket, to correct it, too, as far as I'm aware.

the only thing I would have to say is that even if Gemma is at work answering all the mails from people...there are still a few of uss who sends peter personal emails...I feel that if he could maby answer some of the emails evry now and then....just to let uss know that he has seen them would make it a lot cheaper for uss,I mean we usually end up calling him from different places on the globe....and his phonebill does not get affected by this...only ours...that's my point....
other then that I am very happy with wested

Stitches popped at the top of the cargo pockets and at the hand warmer. Lining worn at cuffs....All prematurely. I have only worn the coat in gentle environments. I sent Wested an email some months ago, asking about a jacket I wanted to have made, but I never got a response. Now winter is basically over here, so I guess I have to wait a year to get that particular jacket. Which is a shame because I really wanted it.
I sent them another email a couple of days ago about a jacket I'm planning to wear this spring. Let's see if I get a response before the summer.
But I should say that I bought a jacket from them in 2004, and back then I got a response almost right away. Even Peter took time to answer my questions (Looking back I almost feel embarrased about the amount of questions I had. Perhaps they just put my email on "ignore", something I would understand completely...), which was great. So I hope my first email just got lost along the way, or something.

I've had 2 Wested leather jackets and 1 Todd Standard. The oldest Wested lamb, which was actually a Leather Concessionaires, was thicker than the Todd, but not by much, as I recall. The newer Wested lamb was considerably thicker than the Todd. The worst problem on one of the Westeds was that one sleeve was longer than the other by about 1 inch when I got it. I did manage to stretch the shorter sleeve a bit, but it still measures 1/2 inch shorter than the other one. This jacket also does not "feel" right when I put it on; it just doesn't sit right on my shoulders as one side feels a bit tighter than the other.
The Todd was a real surprise to me and a pleasent one, because it fit me like a custom jacket and was perfectly constructed. The SA look of the Todd's, at the bargain price at which he offers it, to me outweighs the thinness of the hide. The Raiders screen used jackets were probably made from thin hides as well, although probably not quite as thin as Todd's.

Well, I have had no problems with Wested. I recently ordered my second jacket, custom, aksed for a few items-gussets, two zipped pockets, and I sent them a picture of the pockets on Marc's recent jacket with a message saying, match these please.
Gemma repsonded to all mails, the jacket arrived on time. One minor flaw but not enough to complain or send back.
When I got my first jacket in person from Wested, off the rack, I could see that the place was very busy. Peter was a gent and gave me time but I did not say for long as the pile of jackets waiting for dispatch was growing!

That is the problem. It AMAZES me, that out of all the jackets I wear including those that I have had for several years this is the only one that has frayed... Hmmm........could it be that the Wested Indy is merly a Costume jacket-looks great but is not durable? That is my take on it. My G&B on the other hand is AMAZING to say the least. Peter has agreed to fix it IF if it is a true waranty issue, but I will decline becasue I am not willing to pay anything to have it shipped back accross the pond not to mention the wait time. A local will fix it in a week for about the same price as the ticket over.
To echo Cowboy's plight, I have had the seams pop where the handwarmer pockets are. I am really concerned about this. I love the jacket and all but it isn't that old. I don't really shove anything in them other than my hands or my keys (small keyring with two keys on it). This is by no means a flame towards Wested, I wear that jacket with pride. My other issue is that I sent an email a couple of weeks ago asking about getting it fixed and no reply yet. Reading the forums, I see that someone had issues with Peter's emails being sent to junk mail and that Gemma was sick so maybe that was it. I just want to get it fixed.

I guess the problem I had on my second jacket is that they missed pretty much most of my specs and got the jacket all wrong pretty much. It is understandable because mistakes happen and just there is not much you can do about it. Been like the 2nd or 3rd time I asked for black sliders and did not get any. Oh well, I just hope he gets my replacement or fixed jacket right.
I hope you guys can also get your jackets fixed, I am not sure how those seams pop right where the hand warmer pockets are, but I guess that happens. I try not to put my hands in that pocket in fear of that happening, but sometimes I do put my hands in there. Should be able to stitch that back up no problem. Oh well I guess we'll see what happens.

I had the liner fray in my Wested near where my pants pocket meets the jacket. The reason being that i had carried a pocket knife there and the pocket clip would rub the liner and then it is down hill from there. But all in all a very solid jacket.
Now, if you're e-mailing Peter himself, it may be a domain problem in the e-mail filters on either side. This was brought up in another thread that Peter's e-mails were being rejected by the mail site filters and considering Peter's e-mail as spam.
If all else fails maybe try leaving Peter your Username here at COW and he could PM you instead. Just a thought. But, I know I have a heck of a time returning messages when I get backed up at work. Funny how that happens.
