3rd model hand enjector .44

Saw this picture posted on the S&W forum and thought I'd steal it and share it here.

My M&P looks close enough.

I don't know anything about guns besides "don't stand in front of one," but I think I like yours better.

They're both beautiful guns though.

The hand ejector is a .44 special built on S&W large N frame, same as Indy's S&W.
The M&P is a .38 special built on the smaller J frame.
You could buy several M&Ps for what 3rd model HEs are going for.

Really? This week I'm picking up a second .455 Eley/Webley S&W HE2 (not 3) that was fairly inexpensive.

That Magnum seems to be MADE to have the frame filed off underneath the ejector rod

I really wouldn't do that and still fire it

I don't know beans about guns, but isn't the .44 the same size as a Magnum, which again is the same size as a N-Frams?

Oh, and why not file off the frame underneath the ejector rod? - There's no frame on the HE2 neither...

Do you mean the ammunition, or the handgun? The .44 Magnum is a lengthened .44 Special. Much like the .38 Special and .357 Magnum, .44 Special can be used in a gun chambered for .44 Magnum; but not vice versa.

I was referring to the handgun. So the drum on the Magnum is longer? Is that it?

Yes, the cylinder is longer on a .44 magnum.
I don't own any .44 S&Ws but I own a .357 magnum (model 66) and a .38 special (M&P). There's a shoulder cut inside the cylinder where the cases mouth registers. If you try to load a .357 in a .38 special the cartridge will sit apx 1/8 inch proud and you won't be able to close the cylinder. This is because a .357 is loaded to higher pressures then a .38 is designed to take and S&W doesn't want any guns blowing up. The same is true with a .44 special and a .44 mag.
