Nylon

Post by Frank Wolf »

Howdy.

I'm looking for a whipmaker who makes good nylon whips. The model I'm looking for is a replica of the target whip made by Peter Jack, 'The Whip Man'

I have one of these beauties but the weather here in Finland is keeping the outdoor-training time short.

Any suggestions?

Well it looks like Rhett has a waiting time of 6 months so I have to look elsewhere.

WSP sells whips made by Krist King. Anyone have any experience with them?

I used a 6' wsp nylon whip and was very impressed with it. I liked it so much that now I have to get one for myself, but 8' long instead of 6'.
The 6' is a little hard to crack because of it's length and very fast action.

I have cracked the WSP, Krist King whips and they are great. The bullwhip and the swivel handled stock whip were just loads of fun to crack. It's hard to believe something that inexpensive would be that good. In my book, you can't go wrong especially if you require a whip that sometimes you need to use in less hospitable conditions. TWO THUMBS UP.

BTW, Vince Bruce who is a internationally known trick roper and whip cracker is now using nylon whips for his act. He has a pair of 6 or 7 foot nylon whips that he carries on a special holster on a gun belt. We saw him at the last WWAC and asked why he switched to nylon. He just said that they are cheaper and less hassels. Amazing to see a performer of such high caliber using nylon whips.

Maybe we should order some of these WSP-whips... I imagine the price is so low that there wouldn't be problems re-selling them? I'm thinking about getting two 8 footers.

Well, Finland is pretty small country. Hadn't had the change to really crack whips together but we have met several times now.

Frank,

The Yahoo Whip Enthusiasts group had the followng post which listed a couple of other nylon whip makers:

I think there are some moderately priced whips out there that are excellent value. Nylon whips from Billy Anderson, Rhett Kelley, Greg DeSaye and others in the $80 to $150 price range are fine to loan to beginners.

Andrew

Thanks for the tip.

For the record: I'm looking for whips for myself that won't get ruined if they get wet... the problem isn't the novice users, I have a cheap nylon whip for them to try but I usually use the whips on a surface that gets real muddy after the rain.
