I would think it's too fancy.
Reminds me of Disney merchantise.
I prefer the "Dedicated" thing much better. I like the fact that if someone ignorant of the hobby and of the indy shirt would see the shirt with label "dedicated" they will never recognize that this is the Indiana Jones shirt.
On the other hand if they see the headpiece of the staff of Ra... they 'll know. (and I don't like that especially when people consider us freaks becuase we have this hobby).
So, I think anonymity is much better. Gives a scent of mystery to it.

Even the costume designer for CS - after seeing all three movies just RECENTLY - asked me what kind of logo that is, what on earth that language was and what the text says anyways. Taking that into consideration, if your not into props or gear I'd HIGHLY doubt that anyone would even get the idea. Of course, in order to know it for sure, you'd have to wear it inside out anyway

Just to beat a dead horse, if they aren't intimately familiar with all the props in the Indiana Jones movies, they will never recognize the Headpiece of the staff of Ra. If they recognize the headpiece, they probably already own one. Otherwise, people will just think it is some logo and never give it another thought.PLATON wrote:I prefer the "Dedicated" thing much better. If someone is walking around in a fedora, leather jacket, whip and bag, I don't think the label on the INSIDE of their shirt is going to give anything away. I might be wrong here, I was just thinkin'.
K, I think it looks great.

I don't know, they might confuse you with Clyde Beatty, the lion tamer.

Honestly, before I became hooked on Indy gear, I considered myself a moderate fan of Indiana Jones, yet show me a picture of the headpiece, and I'd probably draw a blank. Even AFTER I started my Indy collection, I had to read other people's comments before I even knew what the heck a bird was doing on the AB liner... I figured it was either just a random historical artifact, or some kind of bizarre, macabre homage to the Nazi symbol.PLATON wrote: I like the fact that if someone ignorant of the hobby and of the indy shirt would see the shirt with label "dedicated" they will never recognize that this is the Indiana Jones shirt.

Marc, I wasn't asking you to change, just letting you know my thoughts.
I am an Indy fan from birth (well there was no Indy in 1973 but you know what I mean). I could recognize the headpiece or any other prop from Indy films from a 1000 meters before I discovered this website. One of my friends is also capable of doing that. This guy has the entire imdb.com database in his head, so he doesn't count.
All my other friends have seen Rotla once at the movie theaters and another one time in DVD perhaps. Everybody who comes in my house and sees the headpiece knows what it is. The Star Wars, Indy and the Terminator films had a huge impact here, so most people under 40 know when they see a prop like this.

After requesting quotes from round about a dozen suppliers from all over the world, I agreed on purchasing 500 pieces from one of them yesterday.
The sample should be in my postbox, once I come back from Madeira and then it should take less than two weeks to receive the rest. I already have someone at hand who will sew the labels into the shirts, so I'm slowly but surely putting an end to this project
Regards,
Marc

Nice embroidery, real gold!!
If you first bought the shirt and then made the label, doesn't that mean that if you sew the labels onto the shirts there will be stitch marks on the back of the shirt (i.e. the label will be sewn through the back)
I though the right procedure of doing this should be to give the labels to the shirt maker and he would take care of sewing the labels during the making of the shirts, not after they're done.
If this is the case and the labels are going to be sewn through the back, then why don't you sell the first batch of shirts without label and put labels on the second batch. (That will make the shirts of the 1st batch rare limited edition collector's items)

Why would I ruin all the s.a. that has taken SO much work and time by doing that?If you first bought the shirt and then made the label, doesn't that mean that if you sew the labels onto the shirts there will be stitch marks on the back of the shirt (i.e. the label will be sewn through the back)
I went a different route. As mentioned from the very start, the shirts are made in Shanghai. As most people would agree, there are some EXCELLENT copy craftmen there and thanks to my contact, I can be 100% certain on the quality as well. However I wouldn't wanna give them our firm labels, even if they they could do it for half the price. I don't wanna see seconds and thirds of these shirts ending up on e-bay, claimed to be the real deal. Easy as that.I though the right procedure of doing this should be to give the labels to the shirt maker and he would take care of sewing the labels during the making of the shirts, not after they're done.
A rare ltd. edition of 100 pieces, huh? - And once people start pulling off the labels of their second batch shirts? If this is the case and the labels are going to be sewn through the back, then why don't you sell the first batch of shirts without label and put labels on the second batch. Labels...very dangerous, you go first.PLATON wrote:I still wonder how you will sew on the labels....
Seriously though, I would imagine that the labels could be sewed on using a technique similar to the hidden stitching used to hem Indy's trousers.

The part between your shoulder blades (dorsally) are on most shirts, Indy's included, double layered. The label is to be sewn on the inner layer facing your body as there is a gap between them, i.e. they are not glued together.PLATON wrote:I still wonder how you will sew on the labels....
Keep them apart, sew the label.
Am I helping any, Marc?

Do they have all the props copyrighted? I mean certain things like penknives or lighters I am not sure how they could crack down on that stuff.Pitfall Harry wrote:Given all the recent legal stuff going on I was wondering if you guys could get sued for using the Staff of Ra symbol on your stuff now?

Well, the props were created for the films. They've got to fall under some kind of copyright, don't they?
I would imagine the only reason people haven't been taken to court over these thing is because up until now everythings been under the radar. Now that the new film is coming out I would imagine anything related to any of the films would fall under some kind of copyright or trademark.
Take the Skull in the new film. Regardless of what it ends up looking like we all know Lucas is going to have some company making them. So they're going to be "copyrighted" in some way because of their distinct look. So if anyone tries to copy and sell their own Luca's lawyers will be all over them.
The same goes for the Staff of Ra headpiece. Someone designed that for the film. So I would imagine the prop and it's image are copyrighted. I mean you look at the image and it's almost instantly associated with Indiana Jones.
I just don't want to see Marc end up with a lawsuit of some kind. I mean they already went after Steve for the stuff he had on his site.

Totally aggree with You Harry, and I still dont understand why Marc ends up with a label that could cause problems. KOTR is a brilliant designer and I'm sure he could come up with a dozen of new, creative suggestions.Pitfall Harry wrote: I just don't want to see Marc end up with a lawsuit of some kind. AB is a strong brand these days, and they sure could do with a logo, a label, that signalled "AB" and not necessarily "Indy". After all - we all know what they make, and the quality of the products, so they dont need the headpiece if You ask me.
Cheers

We can't use the Staff of Ra headpiece on our sites. That belongs to Lucas.
The film hats did not have it due to Bernie telling us NOT to use it. He figured it might get us into trouble, and he was right.
I am gonna come up with another crest, and Indy Mag has offered his expertise in doing so. I want something that looks archaelogical, and he has some great ideas that I will wait on sharing. And it would be a crest that Lucas could not attack.
I really hate to change my crest, but it has to be done, sooner or later. That darn die to put the gold crest on my liners cost me an arm and a leg if I recall correctly. But, I will have to anti up I guess.
But, I certainly want an archaelogical theme to the crest. If for no one else, then for me. I just like the look of it, and no one else to my knowledge has ever used what I am thinking about using. Well, Camel cigarettes used to have somethng similiar. Fedora

Hopefully Marc you can get all the loose ends tied up and get this shirt on the market. I know nothing about the shirt, but I trust you and the other guy(s) that have helped you in screen accuracy. I like the tag you came up with, but wonder if the headpiece will cause future problems. It may, and it may not. I think it depends upon just how far they will go in their efforts to squash folks from using drawings of props. I think once the fanfare dies down, they may not go after folks again, as in the past. Right now, they don't want any competition on Indy items. They are not RICH enough quite yet. Fedora

Hey Steve how about the logo in the upper right hand corner of your web site?
