German Police Pants

Post by fishmeok »

I'm repeating what I just posted, but this might interest some people:
SG also has the three pack of German police pants for $14.99:

Though they are out of the large size until somewhere around June 15th. I tried the X-large, but they are more for a 40 waist minimum.

So how do you know what the waist size and the pants length is with these? Large is what I wear in a shirt but I have no idea about the pants when it comes to s,m,l,xl. I wear a 36x34's in the normal sizing.

That's one heck of a deal though.

I tried on the X-larges and I'd say wait until the larges come in for a 36 (or order now and get a raincheck, probably a better idea). I think the Xlarge would start around 38-40 waist size judging from the ones I tried on. Length is proportional, but it's kind of a crapshoot for me, I'm 33-34 Length, If you are a 32 length or less I wouldn't worry about it.

The XL might be the way to go for a 36-36, to get the length, but you will probably have to have the waist taken in. These pants are in lots, so size is kind of approximate...

Ditto- I had the large on a rain check, but just got a letter from SG refunding my money- said their supplier didn't come through. Has anyone picked up the medium? What size are they really?

Hey fishmeok, I was wondering how they feel. I have the Wested version which is "British Made from Traditional Cavalry Twill". When worn they kinda have a scrachy feel, nice but scratchy. So how do thay feel. This looks like a good deal and I take a medium.

fishmeok,
I have 6 pairs of their medium and they are approximately 33w / 30L as they come out of the package.

The fabric is a (wool/polyester) blend about like dress slacks. As for feel they felt fine, not uncomfortable. I would describe their fit more like wearing straight leg jeans. I would be happier if the thighs were just a little more loose like relaxed fit jeans or pants but these are afterall police uniform pants.

I tried to get some of those in November, but they were out of my size. Tried again at the end of December, and they were still out. So I got some Swedish wool trousers instead. They call them 'six-pocket', but there are no hip pockets -- just the front pockets and the cargo ones on the thighs. I've had a pair of these for probably a decade and a half, and they're pretty comfortable. The ones I recently bought cost twice what I paid for my first pair, and twice what you'd pay for three pair of the German trousers.

The lack of hip pockets is slightly unhandy, as that means I have to carry my wallet in a front pocket with my keys. But I can simply put my car keys in the other front pocket with my house keys. There are metal hooks sewn into the front of the legs, presumably to hook into boot laces so the legs don't ride up in the snow. No need for them here, but they don't bother me enough to remove them.

I'd like to get the german trousers in the OP, but they won't do any good if they don't fit! I'm happy with the Swedish ones. If you're looking specifically for the East German ones they are available at other places -- just not at the OP's low price. For example, here (same place as I linked for the Swedish ones).

EDIT: The place linked above seems to have a greater selection of sizes, but you should call. I asked when I ordered the Swedish ones, and they did not have my size.

I bought these last fall. They are 60% wool, 40% polyester. Very slight wool scratch. The ones I got have 2 unmentioned pockets - a small change slit pocket with sewn edges below the first right belt loop, and a very deep, narrow slit pocket in the right leg seam, starting just below the belt. This pocket is about 19" (39 cm) deep, but only 3 1/4" (8 cm) wide. I assume it's for a flashlight or a billy club, though it seems to me to be very awkward and uncomfortable to use a pocket rather than a belt holder for either. Just don;t put your keys in it by accident in public, unless you have a strong sense of humor!
As to fit, I am definitely a Short Round, so I had to get XL (I think - Euro size 58, about a 42" waist) and tailor the pants legs severely. I have a 29" inseam, and had to cut at least 8' off the bottoms. They are very comfortable, probably not for summer wear, and a terrific bargain.
