Raiders Holster inspiration

Post by IndyParise »

Alright, so first I thought that the U.S. Victory model holster may have inspired the design of the raiders holster.
Now, today I went to see the U.S.S. Olympia in Phillidelphia and saw, in the Seaport Museum, a holster that also beared an uncanny resemblance to the raiders holster that also was desinged to carry a similar weapon. Voila.

The U.S. Colt 1895 Holster

my own pics from the museum will follow, the ones I have look alot more Screen Acurate to Raiders than the above pic.

Then, while searching the web, I found several similar holsters on this site.

The most uncanny being the Iatalian M.1889 Bodeo Holster.

Now here is a pic of the Victory Model holster

So, my thinking says that the props department did their research on large frame revolver holsters and picked an often used basic design and just modified it to make it less military looking. These holsters all seem to have similar lines (almost uncanny in their similarities) so, why not.

Now as an added test, this is either an outline of one of the holsters above or one of Todd's holsters. I just took a pic into paint and got rid of the color and details and changing little tiny details (ones that could be changed easily on the real deal too to make it more raidersish) Try to figure out which one it is.

I thought his holster looked pretty much like a standard WW1/WW2 British Army issue. There are generally vintage examples on ebay that match most of the replica versions available.
