Ok, not coming to any conclusions here just showing a bunch of pics.
I just got a nice cowhide jacket from Bullit, it measures about 22.5 pit to pit so I suppose it's a 42. It fit's me OK actually, fine in the shoulders and has a bit of room in the body. (It's supposed to be a 38, I suppose at a squeeze you could call it a 40!) The collar is a bit big and doesn't fold as well but I will try and train it
Compared to my usual 38 lamb. Which is 21 pit to pit.
However the thickness of the leather definately makes a BIG difference.

Ok, here's where it gets interesting. When you star putting other sizes pockets on. Small Pockets. h7" x w6."

And h7" x w6.5".

So anyone have a pocket preference!

Note the pocket flaps look quite scalloped even though they are only slightly. And boy that collar needs training!

I prefer the pocket size on your lambskin jacket, looks very "Raiders" to my eye (without busting out grids and tape measures in order check).
The Cow on the other hand, to me, looks like it has HUGE pockets! They might not look as big if I didn't have the smaller pockets handy to compare them to, but as it is, it looks like you could stash the Ark in one of those pockets!
I guess it's all in what you're wanting. A lot of folks want screen accuracy. Me, I want room to store bags of M&M's, sandwiches and the like....so I go for function myself.....
I like the 7 x 6.5. I think it gives a close raiders look, but still would be able to be used...I happen to like m&ms myself, so I would need a place to put them as well.
The thing about a wider pocket is that I think it affects drape. It extends the horizontal plane of the jacket front, while the smaller pockets allow the jacket to drape naturally.
i agree with GCR, your lamb is the winning ticket. not only do the pockets look better but the fit is alot better as well.
its good to have one jacket that is a little roomier so that you can bundle up underneath it on colder days. you can wear a "jumper" as you folks from across the pond call 'em

I hear ya!
I'm coming from the perspective of a guy who already has function (my current Wested has fairly large pockets, though not as large as the pockets on KT's cow) and is lusting after screen-accuracy! Of course, once I finally get a nice jacket with the "right" pocket size, I'll probably never wear it because the pockets will be too small for all my stuff!!!
One of the eternal dilemmas of this hobby, I suppose! Do you want a screen-accurate jacket that will look great hanging in your closet, or a jacket that isn't exactly screen-accurate but actually works? Tough choice...
I would have to say the pockets on the lamb look better. When the pockets are to big, it takes away from the rest of the jacket. By the way, both are good looking jackets, just have to give a nod to the lamb.
Kt Templar I love this thread. Thanks for the pictures and the measures! I can't wait to get the next jacket!
Can I ask you if it's better to give Peter measures in centimeters or inches? As you suggested, if they add up a centimeter is no big deal but an inch more could make the difference!

Hey Erri,
I've seen him measure in inches, that's the way he write his orders.
He can convert cm, but I suppose it's safer if you don't have to convert, eh?
KT Templar,
Can you show one more example with pocket 7.5 x 6.5 ?
From your previous example, the 6.5 width looked right but I can't say the same about the height. So if you show us one more with 7.5 x 6.5 I think it will be very good.
I think the smaller pockets work very well. When I did my specs I came up with 7.5" x 6.25". Again, this was for a person of a height if 5'10". If taller or smaller you'd need to adjust the sizing.
You're right. I'd have to check the legislation but I believe we're supposed to use maple syrup somehow in the process!
you're suppose to wear the jacket in a hockey game and drop the gloves on the next guy who smirks at you funny. he'll grab the collar and train it for you and hopefully you don't get any blood on the jacket in the process.....then after wards when your collar sits exactly where you want it to, you can go for a beer with the guy who just split your lip.....now thats Canadian eh?
