Tell me about your Peters Bros. hats

Post by Fatdutchman »

I see surprisingly little talk here about Peters Brothers hats. I know a lot of folks here have them, but it seems they all have put them on the back shelf, in favor of their new Adventurebilts...

For those that have them, what do you think about them? Quality, workmanship, and resistance to shrinking/taper/weather. For me, the latter question is of utmost import, as I work outside, rain or shine, and my hat goes with me. I get soaking wet quite often. Do they make good hats for wearing in the rain?

I know Peters Bros. hats are "stiff", which doesn't bother me a bit.

Custom made PB's are indeed outdoors hats. WELL made, and tailored to your measurements. Joe Peters is great to work with, and I have owned and worn several hats over the years. I currently have 3 in my stable, and love them all.

Here are a couple of comparison pics between my PB and my AB Deluxe, from 6 months ago. The PB is on the left.

My PB was my number 1 for a couple of years. Now it is my working in the yard/garden hat, and it serves that purpose well. It has the 6" crown and the narrower brim. It took some time for that look to grow on me, but it has with that particular hat. In certain lighting conditions, it even appears to be be grey/gray  (dives under the ole' Mopar with Michaelson, and yes, I brought coffee this time). It is a tough, solid hat. I'm not sure what the going price is on a new one, but with the other vendors out there, it may be a little over-priced for a rabbit Indy. As a side note, I bought mine from an online auction for $80. That's the ticket if you can find one. Am I happy with it? Yes, I am. It serves me well.

I have one I bought "as new" on Ebay. A female had paid a lot for it and needed money.

I like it fine but don't wear it very often. Nothing wrong with it, it is soft, pliable and fits my 7 1/4 noggin very well. In quality I place it between the Federation and the AB. It is certainly not all beaver but a blend.

Joe will not let you down...builds a great hat! And, as stated above, it will last out for a very long time! It is stiffer, but I understand that you can request one to be on the 'softer' side. Just take a few minutes and give Joe a call and he will be more than happy to work with you! A very good, kind gentleman! I think the world of him. He has always been fair with me! W>
