New Wested Just Arrived!! (details inside):

Post by Captain D »

Hello Everyone!

My New Wested "Last Crusade" jacket just arrived today!!

Many weeks ago, I emailed Peter about wanting to purchase the latest jacket modifications in the Goatskin leather, but I was looking for a very dark shade of color. He wrote me back saying that he didn't have any Goatskins that were very dark as the Lambtouch Cowhide color. However, a few weeks passed and I recieved an email from Peter saying that he just recieved a batch of Goatskins that were as dark as the Lambtouch Cowhide. I thought that it was very considerate of Peter to remember what I was looking for in a Goatskin color! So, I quickly placed my order!

Peter, and Wested Leather Company, were very great in helping to make this transaction run smoothly with questions concerning various jacket, shipping, and customs issues. I have purchased 4 jackets from Wested, and I have always had outstanding service from them (if you are reading this Peter, this jacket is order # 2289).

I have never owned a Goatskin jacket before, but I owned a New Finish Cowhide from Wested. When I put the jacket on, it felt "slightly" heavier than the Lambskin and definitely lighter in weight than my New Finish Cowhide, it is soft, and I knew that since it is Goatskin, it will withstand a true Indiana Jones adventure! In addition to the recent posts about the "Action Pleats" and "Pocket Placements," I have found NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER regarding these issues, everything is PERFECT. I suppose if I were to find anything that took me by suprise by this jacket (since I have never owned a Goatskin jacket before) was that the leather does tend to appear to be somewhat shiny and vinyl looking......has anyone else experienced this before with their Wested Goatskin jackets when they first recieved theirs?

Thank you for reading my post and sharing my EXCITEMENT with my New Wested!!!!!

Highest Regards,
Captain D

Hey Captain,

First off, congratulations on your jacket. Second, your comments about the vinyl-looking goatskin are not new. Many here (including myself) have commented on goatskin hides (from all companies, not just Wested) having a vinyl-like appearance. It was even referred to as "pleather" in one or more posts.

Having owned a Wested goatskin I can tell you that the shine will fade with wear. This is probably one of the inherent qualities of goatskin which give it a more water-impervious finish than other hides.

The goat is like armor, you won't regret it.

My question is whether or not you notice any gray color to the hide? That was one other complaint that has been brought up several times.

Thank you guys for writing!

Yes, I am very pleased with this jacket :D .

There is no grey tint to the color that I can see, its very dark like traditional lambskin and Lambtouch Cowhide. What I just noticed also is that the jacket doesn't include the "jacket size" underneath the Wested logo name like they always had done. I mean, I know that I ordered a size 44 regular, but I was just curious to why they didn't include the jacket size anywhere on the jacket or the invoice that was included in the Airborne Express invoice....

It may be elsewhere in the jacket. I hear they've relocated the 'Made by British Craftsmen' to the pocket location rather than the back panel like in the past, so it may be around the pocket area now. Regards. Michaelson

Mine has it sewn just below the leather facing on the inside pocket.

Hey guys, thank you for your responses!

Well, I just looked over the jacket pretty good in those locations that you had mentioned, as well as the entire inside jacket, and I have still yet to find the jacket size, lol.

Perhaps Wested forgot to include the jacket size, do you think Peter would still have the info/specs that were used in making my jacket? But maybe I'll just measure this jacket myself and see where the measurements fall in the chart that Peter has posted for us at his website.

The only reason why I was curious was because it felt kinda tight in the shoulder area and I thought that it felt smaller because I have a New Finish Cowhide in a size 44 regular and it doesn't feel quite as tight. But I put both jackets on and they both feel "VERY" close to each other in size, so my new one must be a 44, but I was just curious...But thank you for writing guys!
High Regards,
