Can some one make a "whip wand"? I've got it kind of planed and sketched out and will post a scan and more details later. I'm going to DragonCon at the end of August. My wife will be going to the childrens litterature stuff mostly and they are holding a Harry Potter Yule Ball, so I figure I'll be no one in particlular and have a whip wand.
I'm thinking a dowel core (don't want a floppy wand ). Wand about 14" long. Maybe with a short fall or just a popper or nothing if you can finish the end nice in some way. Small keeper and turkshead knot on the handle area. (keeper about 3" up the wand)
What do you think? The big question is, can it be done for around $35 or so. I don't want to spend a lot on it. I can probably do the braiding if I had the right supplys, but no idea how to do the knots and finish it and such.

It would have to be made in cowhide....
To keep it in your pricerange. Other than that it could probably
be done for 35-40$ depending on how you want it to look.
If its higher than 8 plait it may cost a bit. Though 8 plait with
some fancy patterns could pull it off nicely.
I think we would all have to see the sketch
to see exactly what you are looking for.

That might work, though aren't they usually black? I'll check ebay.
IndyMcFly, actually I don't need it to crack. I guess I could use a very small stock whip and get the effect you are talking about. That would be kind of cool though.
I found an antique braided leather riding crop on ebay that would be perfect, except it's 24" long and has a 17" spike blade in the middle of it. The colors good though and other wise looks like a whip.
I sent it off to jay this afternoon.
Its pretty much just a stock whip handle with Indy knots,
and that lighter brown zigzag on the handle is just the skive of
the strands.
The handle and the lower part of the wand are actually 2 diffrent
strand sets. I Did the lower section first in 10 strands, and then
did the handle in 12. I could not do the entire thing in 12 strands,
because the cowhide was to weak. The Ring knot on the handle does
a pretty good job at covering up the connection between the 2 sections.
The base is just a plain oak dowel which I turned on a plane to a taper.
Pretty much like a stock whip handle.
