Greeting and salutations! It has been quite a while since I’ve had time to post on here, as it has been a very busy (and successful) school year thus far. Even during my “supposed” Spring Break, I find myself preoccupied with working on new music arrangements, giving lessons to students, and trying to further my own career.

I am going to take time out of my schedule to post a review about the hat I just received from Jimmy Pierce’s (JPDesign). (I will make most of my comparisons to the Adventurebilt, as that is what the majority of folks around here know). Pictures are below.

Hat specs:
Brim: 3 inches front/back; 2 3/4 sides
Crown: 5 1/4 inches, bashed

Felt: The felt is SLIGHTLY thicker than my AB and about as smooth. It is a little stiffer than my AB, but not as stiff as the Peters Brothers hat right out of the box. It actually flexes really well and springs right back in to place. The color is not as red as the AB. I’d call it a mocha color.

Ribbon/Bow: If I measured correctly, it is a little over 1 ½ inches wide. It is tacked down very discreetly at the base of the ribbon and wrapped tightly around the crown.

The bow is great! Jimmy is the best around when it comes to “nailing” the bow. It is always perfect. No fiddling around with it to make it look right.

Sweatband: The sweatband is more pliable and softer that my AB. It doesn’t have the little bow in the back, but that is fine with me. I should know which end it the front of the hat by now.

Jimmy also put (punched) my initials in the sweatband along with the number in this lot of bodies – ONE.

Liner: The liner (as can be seen here) is very nice. Not your normal white, but instead is green on the sides and white on the top with Jimmy’s crest. The crest is not silks screened but rather embroidered on which is a nice touch.

Shape/Bash: Jimmy has always been one of the best at shaping hats, and this was no different. The hat was perfect right out of the box. No need to reshape or fix it to make it look right.

Fit: The fit is perfect. In fact, it feels better that another hat I have. It feels as though I have been wearing it a while and have broken it in.

In summary, Jimmy did a great job. He is (and always has been) a master craftsman) Remember, Jimmy stated in his original post (found here) this was one of the bodies that he picked up at a Stetson auction. I can’t wait to see what his own felt is going to be like.

Very nice review and a great looking hat. The series of pictures were like a virtual tour around the hat.

Always good to see another quality offering around these parts. Good show! I agree with Buff, I like the 360 degree view. I can even see the "flying V" in the bow. That's wonderful that it came like that right out of the box. Enjoy your hat!!

Thanks for the complements on the hat. As G-Mann said, it was $200 and well worth it. I will be putting it through its paces over the next few weeks and will post an update as to how it is holding up.

As to the jacket, if you guessed Lambskin, you wrong. Though it was a good guess. No, it is the in-famous (in-famous is when you're MORE than famous) and now extinct lambstouch cowhide. It is buttery soft and drapes very well. It is a great leather and can easily be confused with the lambskin, even when you feel it. It distresses really nicely as well. I wish Peter still offered it. Here are some pictures I took a while back. Some are taken out side, while some are inside. Enjoy!

Wow! That is just amazing for cowhide. Your Hat from Jimmy looks great too. Mine is yet Unbashed but I will be getting to work on it soon.

I'm still saddened by Peters decision to drop the Lambtouch cowhide.

It was, and is, one of my personal favorites of his leathers that he offered us.

Sorry guy's but, the first shot is not straight on. It's tilted back. I was asking for a straight on of the hat not the guy.
