I was just wondering...
What color socks do you think Indiana Jones wears? :D

I say black.

This topic has been up already in the past I think. He wore black socks. I don't care what socks I wear really. But they are usually dark.

Kind regards

There's a picture out there of Harry, Sean and Steven while they are having a laugh. Harry is sitting down in a chair and you can clearly see his black socks. Well, I thought it was that ofcourse...

I believe there's also a still from Raiders, I think where he's kneeing and Arab in the Cairo fight that shows a black sock. I'll see if I can track it down.

I may be mistaken but the scene early in Raiders where Indy is climbing onto Jocks Plane you can see white socks. Or, they could be dusty black socks. :?

Why would you wear black socks with brown shoes, a brown jacket , khaki pants and shirt? Those dark socks in the movie just gotta be dark brown.

My vote goes with Forrestal... except for the LC tie... (and perhaps the hat ribbon?) there's no black to be found in the rest of the gear.

Fisk, I've got a drawer full of brown socks... so they had better not be black! ;)

Kind regards,

I'm with black(sorry fellas) but the Flying wing scene always had me convinced that they were black socks. It just seems to me that if they were some light color they would show up more like if he kicks someone or jumps onto something, etc. Of course, who knows? Maybe he doesn't consider socks part of his "uniform" and wears different colors from time to time.

I saw Raiders a couple of weeks ago and recall brown socks as Indy rolls to a stop before Belloq. Definitely brown.

Oh, uhh, Fisk? I meant "dark khaki." :)

OK class, now we will turn our attention to the the greatest presentation in the history of cinema to the scene in which our hero, Indiana Jones is in the process of stealing a magnificent white stallion to chase after the villainous Nazis in an atempt to take back the mysterious and powerful Ark of the Covenant for the sake of mankind and a very nice government paycheck. Let's take a closer look as Indiana rides galiantly out from under the tent on his horse and as he rides into action let us pay close attention to the color of this socks. Class, what color do they appear to be? Yes class, they match the color of his steed quite well. It appears as though our hero has a clear sense of style.

The socks in Raiders, when you can see them ...seem to be either black or very dark brown. I've got a pair of thick black socks for the costume. The "climbing onto the plane" scene was always the clincher for me.

Yeah, they are all black except for that one scene I mentioned above where they are white. Also I only know of one pic of HF in Map Room attire with white socks. Otherwise, black socks of your preference will fit the bill.

I think its also interesting to note that the stuntmen playing Indy also wore black socks for their shots and I concur with Agent5, I've only noticed one pic of Indy wearing white socks. The pic agent5 metioned was of Indy relaxing in a lawn chair on the Tanis dig site in map room gear...

I checked out my Pan and scan version and those socks are black, not dark brown or brown, but black...where's ROB-DFW, when you need him????? :D

You should get together with my wife. She collects Garfield @#$% the way we all collect gear. Our home is a mixture of Garfield, Star Wars and Raiders. Weird combo's.

Well, actually the socks HF wears as part of his Indy costume are dark brown tube socks. I guess he dropped them in Tunisia, which is really no surprise.
On the "Making of Raiders" video, you can see the stuntman Terry Leonard sporting those, as well. Oh, and the highly accurate Toys McCoy Indy figure also has them.

That would be a good explanation as to why some of us see the brown and some of us (who are seeing the brown) see the black. I'm sure lighting has a lot to do with it also.

Here's a link to a thread from Rob-DFW that may be related to this thread in that it shows and also explains (in a link) our perceptions of color, hue, shading, etc.

Since day one, I've always worn a JC Penney exclusive brand of dress socks called Stafford. They come in both dark brown and black. The brown type are the exact shade of the Alden shoelaces, and match perfectly. These socks are very comfortable, and fit the bill perfectly. No self respecting adventurer should travel without them.

Sorry, guys, but no matter what pic or screen I look at I still see black...

Dale's comment demonstrates a great way to figure this out. Try to compare it with the dark brown of the gunbelt or in TOD the black bag strap...I see black socks.

At least this is one bit of Indygear we can all pretty much afford. I've got a ton of black socks courtesy of the US Navy. Many of them are the thicker ones meant to be worn with combat boots, so they should go quite well with the Aldens when I'm out adventuring. Yippeee!!! :D

Oh yeah, I had a bunch of those but they're all gone now. I used 'em to wax my car with, after I bought some decent ones. The socks are great quality, but the undershirts, apparently, came from another source.

Someone mentioned Harrison wearing white socks in Map Room(tm) attire. Here's a pic, from The Making of Raiders of the Lost Ark. They are undeniably white. I guess you get to pick your own sock color.

If you look carefully in the Streets of Cairo scenes he wears those low-cut tennis socks with the little fuzz-balls on the back. You need to look real carefully though!

I don't know... that pic DFW posted looks more like brown socks to me. The highlight on them would be more blue/grey if they were black, right? In the least... we now know the exact number of wrinkles on the back of the German mechanics head! Woo hoo!

Yep, in that shot they look brown on my monitor. The sunlight brings out the brownishness (word?). I think the other shots are too dark because of the shadows. When you zoom in on my shot there is no question it's brown.
