Two Piece Gussets

Post by GunstarBlue »

Hello, I'm a new member, but I've been reading this site for a while. I recently ordered a jacket and I was told that Wested is unable to add a two piece gusset and can only add a single one. Has anyone else had this problem with recent orders?

What the heck? I've never heard about this problem and don't see any problem with it. The two piece ones hardly take more leather than the single ones and I don't think that the two-piece ones are that big of a modification that the jacket couldn't be returned if it doesn't fit. Fascinating. :-k

After reading about countless jackets with two piece gussets I assumed it wouldn't be a problem. Hopefully it was just a misunderstanding. I've emailed Gemma and she said she would ask Peter about it.

I just ordered yesterday and I asked for two piece gussets.

I got a confirmation email, but nothing about the gussets.

Well, it sounds like our orders were probably processed around the same time, so I'm sure it was just a misunderstanding. Thanks for the info.

Are the two-piece gussets any larger than the one piece kind, or are they just made of two pieces of leather that are half the size of the piece that makes the one piece gusset? (Hopefully that made sense.) I'm guessing that the two piece gussets are this way to fold up better when the arm isn't raised. I don't really want to bother poor Gemma again and I was wondering if anyone here knew for sure.

I have the double gussets & it's basically two normal gussets added together. I'm certainly happy with them, as they definately offer a great range of arm movement over a jacket without them :)

I can't think of a reason Peter would stop doing these, so I would say there has been a misunderstanding

Do the two piece gussets provide twice the extra range of movement than do the single piece gussets?

Yes. The two piece design is made to fold up into the armpit area easier
than a one piece design can. And because it made of two pieces, the
more you move your arms up and out, the more of the gusset will be
exposed as you do this. If you move arms a little bit, then only a little
bit of the gusset will move.

With just one piece, the material does not have the same kind of
movement as the two piece, and thus, its more bulky, and does not
react the same as you move your arms around.

The two piece design does this also, but the two pieces can more easily
fold up, and will be less bulky in your armpit when your arms are at your side.
