Well, I heard back from Gemma. She informed me that if a standard size didn't fit properly, they would be glad to do an exchange for me. However, she also let me know that they cannot offer exchanges on a modified jacket. Since I want to add a few mods...gussets, maybe some body length, etc., I want to make sure I get ths size right.
My normal jacket size is a 42L. When buying casual jackets, I always buy Large Talls. So, my question, for those proud owner out there...how true to size is the jacket if you order your normal size? I don't want the jacket to hang off my shoulders on the sides, and I don't want it baggy at all. Nor do I want it tight fitting. I just want a comfortable fit that will allow for layering of the occassional sweater.
Your expertise will be the BIGGEST help.

I just recently received my 38L jacket. It fits nearly perfectly in the shoulders. I say nearly because there is room for a sweater, in which case I think it would be just right. (I haven't tried this yet.) The rest is just as I would like it (but YMMV), longer in the body than a typical Raider's jacket. It comes to my back jeans pockets in the back. I can't tell you about sleeves from regular sizing, as I specified my sleeve length.
In general I think you will be fine for the shoulders, and the side straps give you a lot of leeway for comfort. My jacket is not baggy at all if I close up those pleats, but there's sweater room should I want it.

If you order in your suit jacket size, it will be well fitted. Not tight, not loose. You should have some room for a sweater, as long as its not one of those super-heavy cable knit jobs. If you normally order long sizes, definately do that. Even the TOD is a short jacket by comparison to common cuts out there. I ordered mine 46L, but asked them about a little extra room; they said they would "cut it large". Mine fits perfect
The best thing you can do is get measured by a tailor if you have any questions. Shoulder width, sleeve length, and neck to waist are all things a tailor can get easily. The more info you give Wested, the better.

If you're going to get custom work done and it won't be returnable, definitely get yourself measured. Print out a copy of Wested's order form and take it with you to a tailor and fill in the blanks with them. I did this, and my jacket (lamb, dark brown, ToD) fits perfectly.
If you're shy or otherwise have no access to a tailor, ordering a jacket that is the same size as your suit jacket would probably be fine, but because the Indy jacket is purposefully shorter than what most of us are used to, it might be off for someone who usually gets a long (like me). That's why most people on the board will advise you to get measured as the best means of getting the right fit. If you can't get measured, then at least have someone take the measurements on you as best as they can.

I'm 5' 10" tall, weigh between 175 and 180 pounds, a wear a 42 regular suit jacket with a 16" x 34" dress shirt. I gave that information to Gemma and my jacket (authentic brown lamb, raiders style) fit me to a tee with just enough room to possibly layer a light sweater underneath. I didn't request any special modifications so for all I know they may have just pulled one right off the rack and shipped it to me, but what the hey, it fits! Of course, I've been dressing myself for years and know my sizes. 
These people know what they're doing, but you'll need to give them as much information as you can. If in doubt as to certain sizes, do please get yourself measured.

i gave them my measurements and told them i dont want it too baggy. my chest size was closest to 40 but i told them either go 40 or 41 depending on wether they think it'll fit or not.
it says 40...i may have gotten 41? i dont know. but it does fit perfectly.
my advice is to order in your size...but also leave some of it to their discretion if you're not sure

Skippy- Nope. I'm not round shouldered at all, and am not carrying any real extra weight. I'm 6' 3" and weigh bewteen 200 and 215 pounds depending on the time of year. I just weighed myself...213. No paunch, no hunkered over posture. . I'm tall, with broad shoulder, and well proportioned.

I was going to say go with a standard cut, until I got to the bottom of you post & read broad shouldered, at which point I would still say get you back measured horizontally from armpit to armpit & discuss.
I am round shouldered & carrying about 1.5 stone more than I should be
The jacket in my avatar is a 40 badged 41" chest. Loads of room at the front, but I can feel the seam across my back if I wear anything thicker than a Indy shirt. Had a 42" jacket cut for me & it felt much better on the back (didn't wearing for other reasons tho').
I don't know if anyone has had the same issue (not really a problem
) & it may not be an issue for you; but I highlight it purely as something for consideration, as I never though of it at the time & I tried a jacket & got measured at the workshop by Peter.
