Help on a Shirt Redye (believe it or not)

I'm in the process of helpingsomeone here on the list with a NH shirt redye.

It keeps coming up salmon pinkish, pearl grey just isn't working. I'm having trouble figuring out what might be going wrong.

Has anyone else had problems with the process on the new FAQ.

The only difference is that he is using taupe, not tan. But I ran a couple of color tests with it and it should be fine.

The only help I can offer is to tell you to leave the pretty shirt alone and don't add a single drop of dye.

What brand of dye are you using?

The only brand that I know of... "RIT, For All of Your Dyeing Needs!"

Sorry, that kinda sounded like a commercial endorcement...

Although the color tests seem to have worked, are you going to go back to the tried and true 4:3 Grey/Tan? At least you know the tan works!

The 4:3 Grey/Taupe also looks good for a darker finish. But that 1:1 Taupe/Grey does look pinkish, at least on my monitor.

Have you decided on a course of action?

You're right about the 1:1. It does come off a little too pinkish. I wound up running another sample then doing a grey overlay. It then came out just right. Which brings us back to basically more grey then tan ratio.

The taupe works pretty good and yes , it does yield darker from the start.

Either color works either way. But sticking with the 4:3 ratio still holds true.

I've even thrown some yellow in the mix out of curiousity. So far it gives me a really nice TAN shirt though...

Tommorow is another day...
