You recall that Willis and Geiger safari hat you sent for your dad, to have me replace the sweat? And how much I told you I wanted a hat like that? Well, ebay came through and here she is!!!http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... %3AIT&rd=1
What I found interesting is the top crease in this hat. Look familiar? It is the same as the pre-formed HJ that most are familiar with.
Now for those that might wonder why I did not just make one. Well, that band on the hat is the reason. And, this hat has tiny vent holes in the sides for ventilation. Now I need to get me a safari jacket and a good briar pipe. Fedora
Great find Steve! I glad you finally got one! And what luck to get the Zebra band too! Dad was thoroughly pleased with you work. He keeps telling me that his next hat is comming from you.
Thanks. Yeah, that Zebra band was the clincher. There was another one on there, that I did not know about, that went for only around 40 bucks. I wish I would have bidded on that one instead. I think both were identical. regards, Fedora
I didn't know you were in the market for Willis and Geiger. About 4 months ago I saw a Willis and Geiger safari Jacket at Goodwill but didn't buy it because it was a size 48, too big for me. If I had known you were looking I'd have bought it for you as I believe that is about what you wear isn't it?
Hemingway Jones wrote:Dare I say, that is very Hemingway-esque! That is a very cool hat. Congratulations on a great find!
I can just see Francis Macomber wearing a hat like that. Though I imagine his hat was ruined.
Let's pray that Fedora has better luck.
And to go along with what fedoralover said, Willis and Geiger used to make a copy of Hemingway's safari jacket. I've always regretted not picking one of those up. That would be a great look for Fedora.
Now I know why Akubra started putting the "hide with hair" hat band on the Sombrero! Maybe I should put one on mine?
Fedora, how could you get the hat and pass up on those nifty ties the same seller is offering???
Cabela's offers their version of the safari jacket at a decent price. Cabela's safari line (shirts, shorts) used to be made in South Africa. I don't know about now.
Ernie H's jacket came from Abercrombie (in the days when they were still a hunting and fishing supplier).
lol, congrats Steve on that hat, though its not of my personal taste, but hey it seems you had been looking for it for a long time, so congratulations!
I got this one a year or so ago. They used to come with a lanyard and mine didn't, so I ordered one from the Noggins site. It pretty much stays on the hatrack except when the above named King Solomons Mines is on the tube. W & G put out a great catalog in their day.
