Newbie here: Help me ID this whip.

Hello, I've been lurking for a little while now, and decided to join the fun. I'm fairly new to the Whip, and recently bought this jem from the ebay. The seller stated it was a kangaroo whip made by an Australian whom he could not remember the name. This seems to be the place for whip enthusiasts. Can anyone help me ID the maker of this whip?

Physical dimensions: Handle is 13 inches, Throng is 8 feet, Fall is 25 inches, Cracker is 6 inches. Its a 16 plait Roo hide.

it looks like a "target whip" from Terry Jacka.

I'll have to agree with Richie. With that long handle it's definately Australian style. And the shape/size of the ring knot makes me want to say Terry Jacka as well.

Yeah, right on Jacka for the handle length and the knots, but the taper on it doesn't look like a Jacka to me though. It still looks pretty wide down at the fall hitch, (and the fall's rather short for a Jacka, ain't it? Could be a replacement, but...)

It's definitely an Australian-style target whip, and it's in the general style of Jacka's work, but I don't know if that's him. I've only played around with a couple Jacka whips, so I'm no authority, but I don't know. Could also be the pictures.

I'd say this bullwhip was made by Bernie Wojcicki of Tasmania: www.em-brand-whips.com

You see, I have a bullwhip made by Bernie, 8 ft, black, 8 inch handle. The way the strands are pared (flesh side corners), the hitch knot where the fall is attached, the red hide fall, the taper, the wrist loop, and the knots are almost exactly the same. The only difference is the lenght of the handle, and Bernie certainly makes this long handled Australian style bullwhip.

Mine is a great whip, shot loaded, and cracks very loudly. Yours looks like a great whip too. Enjoy!

That looks a little closer in construction.

The whips of Jacka's that I've seen tend to use white hide falls, and he bevel's 'em down at the edges, (which explains the NARROW NARROW taper on the whip and the ultra-slim fall hitches.)

Bernie makes 'em flat and tends to use redhide from what I've seen.

Both tend to not be quite as active as things tend to be around here, and there are a couple things to be aware of with them:

The WWAC group discusses things OTHER than bullwhip use as well, such as gun spinning, trick roping, knife throwing, and occasionally trick riding.

The bullwhip enthusiast group covers sport whipcracking, but tends to be rather inactive, (last post was last week, two prior to that was March.)

Thanks to all for the great help. I tend to agree with Bernadodc (are you a bone cracker?). I just emailed Bernie Wojcicki, and hope to have a reply from him. I will let you know.

BTW, I also have a new (to me) 6 foot bullwhip that was made by Steve Blanton, and secondary to my in-experience (is that a proper word?), I find it a lot easier to crack. When I get good at it, I'm sure the bigger one will be cracken.

Looks like you got a really good deal there!
Besides the fact its not a indy whip it looks really nice. Sometimes if your lucky, you can get good deals off of ebay. How fast and accurate is it?

I am a newbie with whips. I can barely crack this big whip. I also bought a smaller one that I can crack, and I'm working with it to develop some skill. I believe it will work nice once I am up to speed, but it is much heaver and longer than my smaller Steve Blanton made whip. I have had a couple of 6 foot leather Mexican made whips that I also couldn't crack...so I upgraded. Give me a year, and don't come around me with a cigarette in yore lips

Yea,

You should be fine in a year. A year after i started cracking i was able to spilt tomatoes in half fairly easily. So, after a while its changing things up to make diffrent combos exe. Well good luck on your quest.
