Dark brown leather Alden update

Post by Stefan Hills »

I spoke with a sales rep at the Alden store here in D.C. and looked into the option of getting a custom made boot.

The charge is $75 dollars extra,
Turn around time is 4 months may be less, you have to come in fill out an order form and pay a deposit.
The current charge for a pair in D.C is $260, so add $75 and a 4 month time period. She also mentioned that it might take only a month, but that depends on the factory as they only make something like 12-15 pairs in a month for custom shoes.

Kind regards and best wishes,
Stefan

It may be worth it for people trying to get screen accurate gear. Wasn't there somebody who asked if you could get a black pair?

I don't own a pair of Alden's yet. But I'm thinking around Christmas that a jolly old fat man might bring me a pair. Even if Uncle Stu doesn't come through for me, I'm going to order one.

I wonder how many requests for a different leather color they get, and also wonder if they realize how many more pairs of this unique boot they would sell if they just altered their production color.

Yeah, $185 would be a lot nicer than ~$240.

Hi all,

I might take the leap of faith and order a pair in the older brown wax hide leather as I am having an inch to get some gear and the shoes are something that I would wear the most so why not . I called Alden and they said that they would send me swatch for the brown wax hide that the offer the shoe in but the also asked me so send it back to them as this was the only piece that the currently had. It got me wondering could Alden of D.C just not get another piece from factory hee hee.

The total charge for the shoe is $335 itself and I added 10 for shipping so that should come out to about $345

Will let you all now how things turned out,
Kind regards and best wishes,
Stefan

I can't help but wonder if it is cheaper to get them professionally dyed black?

Good idea ITG. But I do have a friend who ordered a black pair from Alden themselves and it cost him $400. Ouch...

Good call ITG, Dan did just that, not dyed to black, but a sufficient brown. Im sure going to black wouldnt be that much more expensive, he said it only cost him something like $30....
The other problem (IMHO) when you start changing the leather on this boot, its sturdiness could get comprimised. This boot works really well becuase of the stifness of the "stock" leather. Switching to a flimsier leather might look nicer, but could yield less support overall....hmmmm
2Cents.
Cheers!

Custom Aldens

Post by LJHood »

I am going to order a pair of custom Aldens in the original brown. When I go into the store, what is the leather and color that I specifically ask for so that I do not get the current orange/red?
