Map Room Brush
Have we ever found a good Map Room Brush? Lots of us were looking, I still am. Let's hear from some of you that have something close.

Yep, I suggested it as a possibility, but I believe Rabittooth had found a website that had more of an example of one. The links may still be on the old COW under prop replicating or may have gotten zapped away with the other lost General Gear posts.Indiana Jess wrote:I think ITG had some information about a fireplace brush that looked pretty close.

You won't beleive what I just found!
While talking about the brush, the one Harrison Ford uses in the map-room... some of my fellow of you were wondering where new ones could be found. I remember seeing one on display somewhere... then while changing Alan I saw that vary brush I was thinking of... on display on the wall. (Pic of the wall where it's displayed)
It belonged to my wife's Grandmother, it's over 60 years old and if memory serves it's a dead ringer...Close up of the Brush

This shot that was posted above is from a screen grab of Raiders and is a fairly good representation of what the Maproom brush looks like:

Mmmmmmmm.....I don't know. The Pilgrim 2608 looks good but the Pilgrim 1608 WT looks pretty screen accurate too. However, the Hansen Wholesale 2408VI might have a more pratical.Rabittooth wrote: (PS-The "Pilgrim 2608" brush seems to be the closest)
How do you distress the brush?
Ha! I love how we obsess so much on this forum.
Pyr.
Ah heck, I guess I'll jump on the fireplace brush bandwagon too even though I originally helped shoot it down. I would buy this if it weren't for two things: 1.) I don't want to buy the whole set. Can we just buy the brushes from the manufacturer? 2.) What about the hole that will be on the top of the prush for the handle? Can we fill that in somehow?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Map Room Brush - MAP ROOM BRUSH! WHAT MAP ROOM BRUSH!?
YES! I HAVE RETURNED! AND YES I AM STILL SEEKING THE EVER ELUSIVE MAP ROOM BRUSH! No luck so far on my end either. I am still looking keeping an eye at every hardware, fireplace, archaeological equipment store and the like. I will find it! And then you will all be envious and begging me where I perchance obtained said brush. I fell off the earth for a while and lost my seniority it seems when the site was updated!
Oh well, I am back if anyone was wondering LOL! ITG, I am in Arlington now if you drop me a personal note I will update you on the 411

Hummm
Considering that the scene the brush was used in was shot in England, it may very well be! Good luck in your search! Regards. Michaelson

Welcome back! I'm glad you're still around. I was beginning to wonder if something happened to ya since you didn't make it to our big Texas summit last month. I'm sending ya a PM. I hope Arlington is agreeing with you and the family. I'm surprised we haven't bumped into each other.Indy_Prince wrote: Oh well, I am back if anyone was wondering LOL! Hey! I think that brush looks great. The only problem is you hafta buy the whole set. As for the hole, if you took a saw or one of those Dremel things and sliced off the end you could sand it down and it would be pretty flush. I can hear it now " Alex, what are you doing with the chain saw and my fireplace set?" Hehe, and they call this a "Healthy" hobby.
Cheers, Alex

It may be a bit too early to start talking about this but, I've been talking to a brush manufacturer about finding or making a brush like this. I just spoke to them this morning after not hearing anything for a few weeks and was told that they were unsuccessful finding any current manufacturers of this type of brush. I mentioned that it nay be a fireplace brush and he said that the bristles are too soft for that type of brush. Also fireplaces brush bristles are made of fire retardent material not horse or boar hair.
So the next step is building it from scratch. I sent them screen captures of the brush and a basic schematic to use as guides. I should hear from them next week about costs and it will take a few more weeks to get a prototype made. I hope to have a sample in time for the Queen Mary summit.
I know I don't have any pictures to show as of yet or any prices, but based on what I gave them they are positive that they can make this brush. So, who among you would be interested in ordering one? I'm trying to get a rough estimate on how many I should order. I'm sure the more I order the lower the cost per unit will be. Any takers?

MAP ROOM BRUSH
I would really like to see the prototype when it come available. I may have fallen off the posting world but I am here from time to time. My search has come to a dead end. Someone here said they found something at Wally-World. Do you think you could post some pictures of your findings. I would hate to make you go to the store just to get one but if it is a ringer lets not waste our time and expense if there is one readily available at a store

Why not just take an existing, off-the-shelf whisk brush and modify it, like so:
[insert snazzy Photshop 'before' and 'after' image set here]
OK - can someone toss me a bone here? I jsut noticed on the FAQ I cannot directly load the image - if someone can host the image post, I'd appreciate it.
IM or post here and I can email it to you.
Cheers.

I just use the umpire's brush that I got when I umpired for Little League Baseball. It's a little more squared and has black bristles, but it has the darker wood.
During baseball season (April-October) these umpire brushes are readily available at any sporting goods store which sells baseball equipment.
