All of the Brown hats in Raiders were the same color. It only appears lighter in some scenes because of Fullers Earth and very intense movie lighting.

There has even been some discusion that the grey hat was really his brown hat and it just looked grey due to the lighting. People have actually created this effect with their brown hat in certain types of lighting. I personally think that they did use a grey hat for a couple of scenes when he was wearing a color suit that didn't go particularly well with his brown one.

Do you really think that they ordered different shades of brown colored hats for different scenes, when in the movie it is supposed to be the same hat all the way through? I don't think so.

Go ahead and miss buying the best hat available anywhere, because you think the color is too dark. Buy yourself a lighter color brown hat and since everything fades over time, especially when worn in the sun, in a couple of years you will have yourself a nice beige hat.

RUN, DON'T WALK TO STEVE'S WEBSITE AND GET YOURSELF AN ADVENTUREBILT 100% BEAVER FEDORA. There, I feel much better now.

On my screen this picture very accurately reflects the color of the actual Adventurebilt beaver. Its a lovely deep chocolate. Great shade in my opinion!

Yes it is a 100% beaver hat. it is a fantastic hat ! great quality ! and nice brown color

BUT , for Raiders, the felt was a blend of brown and green fur. I interviewed R.SWALES years ago for a Lucasfilm magazine.

The hat is beautiful, I love it, but it's that quote that really grabbed me and compelled me to say, "EXSQUEEZE ME???" You don't, by chance, have notes still from that interview, or perhaps even the article it generated, do you? I'm probably not the only one who'd love to read it!

Thanks, and wear it in good health - it's a beauty. :)

You're probably right "Pagey". In fact, the Raiders seems to be "chocolate" and being an owner of an eighties - HJ, the colour of the felt is brown-green exactly like at the end of the movie "the Temple...".

yes, maybe he confusing the 3 films but it is what he said.
nevertheless, We can see on some pics the hat is not perfect brown. sure the light on the set is important but the light cant create color. what do you think ?

Aside from lighting, the way the colorist adjust the colors of the film can also dramatically change the way things look. It always fascinates me that when I see a movie costume in real life how the color usually looks very different from the way it did in the movie.

I think that's true. Sable is sort of greenish, gold, brown. The pic at the top shows this IMHO.

Let me throw in my 2 cents here. The browns used in hats have been around for eons. All felters make em, with each manufacturer having various shades, all under the same color description. When HJ changed suppliers, the shade of brown changed as well. The term "Sable" was used to denote various shades of brown, all sold under the same name. I have personally seen several different shades of brown on the HJs. Their browns, over time, have not been consistent. regards, Fedora
