Hey Guys. I got a Wested Goat in Dark Brown a few months ago and it is just about the best leather jacket I've seen, it fits perfectly and is excellently made, but I do have a minor gripe with it. It tends to creek when moving slowly. I don't notice it when walking around but when I drive or sit down with the jacket on, it seems to make a lot of noise. Can this be sorted by using a leather conditioner or the dryer method? If conditioner is the way to go, what is recommended that can be easily found in the UK? Sorry if you've heard this question a million times before!
I had the same problem with my dark brown Raiders jacket when it arrived. I then got myself some Pecards Jell from the U.S. which solved the problem immediately. As a nice side effect, it made the leather drape better as well.
I'm the opposite - I love that leather jacket 'creak'!
My authentic goat doesn't really do it, but strangely enough my authentic lambskin does. I think it's because I've never treated the lamb with Pecards.
Letap is the best stuff you can get in the UK, or so I've heard. Someone might chime in on this. I believe this is the stuff recommended by Wested, but they can't ship it outside the UK.
I've had my authentic lamb for about two years and it still creaks. I love the sound too. Also, if you listen carefully in Raiders when Indy is talking to Imam before the bad dates scene you can hear his jacket creaking too.
I used to think it was my jacket creaking, until I leaned over to tie my shoes the other day and heard the sound, and my jacket was still hanging in the closet. Got to get that back checked one of these days. Regards. Michaelson
Arghhhh....Michealson got to him first!
I was just about to say....Hey Mr. Langley : Just want to say...welcome aboard! You'll find us the warmest, friendliest and weirdest bunch on the internet .
In thinking about your problem...Are you sure its the jacket that's creaking? Man!...when I turned 40 this year....talk about weird noises eh! (I think Bill Cosby talks about all the new noise we make when we hit 40)
It's just a thought..."A strange one but "a thought"..

...hmm, in the spirit of TGIF, I think the joke I heard goes something like this: You know you’re getting old when you sit down to breakfast and the snap, crackle, and pop you hear is not coming from your cereal. <rim shot>
So RossLangley, it appears that we can deduce from most of the replies that the hide used on your jacket came from a ‘OLD’ goat and let’s make it clear that I’m not referring to Peter.

I’ve heard that also and I thought that was because it comes in an aerosol can - but I forget for sure.
I was told that too, Rixter, as well as the fact that the formula is proprietary, and they don't want to ship it out to be reverse engineered outside of the UK. I took the second part with a grain of salt, but the first reason held water. Regards. Michaelson
Thanks for all the replys! I've been reading the forum for a while, especially when I was trying to decide what style jacket and leather to go for, but have never got around to posting anything. I hope the noise comes from the jacket and not my back, I'm only 23!
