ADAM - THANK YOU SO MUCH! YOU ABSOLUTELY NAILED THE COLOR I WAS LOOKING FOR!!!

Just got my 'Indy-On-A Budget' whip in the mail when I got home tonight - it's BE-AU-TI-FUL! And that was amazingly fast, too! I finally have an Indy-Esque whip!

I saw Bink's and GhostAssassin's posts, but you really have to see this yourself to believe how beautiful they are!

Okay, okay, I know the rules - bragging about something new, immediate pics are de riguer!

FLOWERS??? I love flowers!!! It's a beaut, Jerry! I think the color is fantastic on these whips. Adam, you really stumbled upon something good with these whips. You're making whip cracking a more affordable hobby for some of us which will likely lead to many of us saving up for more whips!

Oh, and how I wish it were nice enough to go out and crack mine again. It's been to damp and rainy all week!

I'm glad you like the whip.

I finally looked at the Lee Keppler whip and his prices. I can see how its color hasn't been very popular with Indy fans. I hope I can continue getting the color brown/tan that I've been using in the IOAB bullwhips.

I've had some orders come in this week that needed to be filled by Halloween. All of the orders I've gotten so far will be done (or are done) and will be in the customer's hands in time.

For anyone else doing some Halloween whip shopping, I might be able to put in some overtime and move some other orders around and have a couple whips done to ship by next Tuesday or Wednesday. Any order for an IOAB bullwhip that I get between now and Halloween has been put into the category of a 'rush order' and adds $20 to the whip. If union guys get paid for overtime, why shouldn't I?

For those in love with the price, don't worry, if you can wait to get the whip after Halloween, you can still place an order for a $60 whip.

I'm leaving today for Chicago to see some blues, then from there I'm on my way to Tulsa for the worlds's largest gun show. I won't be near a computer so I won't be able to answer any email until Monday.

Wow, Adam! You're really stepping up to the plate! Even the $20 rush order is worth the price for this whip. And if you're planning on keeping the price of these whips at $60 otherwise, I don't see how you'll ever have time for anything other than whip making.

Hello all,

Brand spankin' new Indy member here that has been browsing the site for a good long time. I've wanted a good Indy outfit since I was 6 and thanks to you all it's starting to come true. I've gotta dig up a pic of me when I was 7 and had a homemade indy costume for my avatar.

Big thanks to Adam for filling out my order in time before Halloween. I have a quick question for either Adam or anyone else. I just received a beautiful IOAB whip and the leather feels a tad oily. I'm sure that's just fresh conditioned leather. Should I let it dry naturally or possibly take a cloth or old T-shirt to it and rub it down?

Most leathers feel that way naturaly.

Welcome, rcwpong! I'd just leave it the way it is. You want the leather to have some moisture to it so it doesn't dry out and I'm sure the leather was probably treated or conditioned before it got to you. I don't think you really need to add anything to it, either, though I think I heard that it's okay to use Pecards on the fall (the long, flat leather strip with the popper tie to it) since it get's the most abuse. Someone correct me if I'm wrong since I'm new at whip cracking myself! AT any rate, enjoy the whip!

WOW! I got to try this out in the backyard today! This whip handles GREAT!

The days of my whiffing, woofing, and popping w/ my other whip are done - I got several LOUD CRACKS out of this, in a couple different directions! Considering I still **** at this, that's amazing! Imagine what will happen with some practice...hmm...

P.S. This also gave me a great chance to discuss safety and physics w/ my five year old, in that order, including dangerous items, not playing w/ daddy's stuff (not just tools), never throwing things at people, objects in motion, the speed of sound (the barrier), and sonic booms. For a five year old, I'm surprised how much she repeated back to me - ALL of it. I shall call her Sponge!

I finally got the chance to give my IOAB whip another workout yesterday. (Or was I the one who got the workout?) I've only been working on the circus crack and want to get that one down pat before learning more, but I'm getting better! I didn't hit myself in the butt this time, which is a big improvement! I even started switching off hands and find that I can get a crack out of it using either hand. It's not as difficult as I thought it'd be! And yes, I was able to produce a couple of good, loud cracks! I'm lovin'm this whip crackin' thing!

Hey, Swindiana, I'm SO glad you posted that! When I was looking at the UK Summit pics I was rubbing my chin and say to myself, "Man, that REALLY looks like my whip...where the heck did he get that?" Didn't realize IOAB whips had made it to Europe so fast!

That handle is pretty distinctive, isn't it?

P.S. I'm assuming by the turn-clasp on the whipholder that the one on the left of that pic is Redbeard's, right?

I had a chance to "test drive" Indiana Jerry's IOAB bullwhip this past weekend @ the QM Summit and I have to say that I am impressed. Over the years I've had the opportunity to crack bullwhips from many differen't makers (thanks Segei ) and I think that these IOAB whips are the cat's pajamas! For the price you certainly can't go wrong. They crack like thunder. I have an old cowhide swivel handle latigo that is about ready to be put out of it's misery and I think one of these babies will be the perfect replacement. Just the ticket for those times when I want to do some crackin but the conditions are not right to break out my Joe Strain.

I don't have a yard to practice in, so it makes it more difficult to supress the urge when I want go outside and crack it.

You're QUITE welcome, PBG! It was a privilege and an honor not only to meet you all, but to hand over my whip to my betters and see what it can really do in experienced hands. Thanks for giving it a whirl!

And I need to thank ITG - she's an excellent teacher...or would that be a whip-mistress? Hmm... Up until the QM, I could only get cracks occasionally, but still many more w/ the IOAB than w/ my old mexican whip...but Holly patiently walked me through it many, many, (many,) times, until I finally hit the sweet-spot! After that, it latched - now I can do it pretty much every single time.

Adam - quite a number of learned folks tried your whip, and it was all around very complimentary feedback!

P.S. PBG: Can't tell you how dismayed I am that you are moving as soon as I realized you are in my backyard! Good luck w/ the move, and get back on the COW again as soon as you are settled!

Update - Now that I've finally really gotten to work it, I wanted to update.

I cracked it for over an hour at the QM, possibly almost two? My shoulder and back are just now unknotting!

The handle has darkened a bit w/ use...interesting contrast. If anyone is interested I'll pop another pic up, just post to let me know.

Forgot to mention...the whip seemed a bit stiff when I was first working it at the QM, especially compared to the other whips, but the only comment anyone made about that was that was sometimes a characteristic of cowhide.

But after that one- or two-hour session...and a couple days for my shoulder and back to unknot ( ), I was out in the backyard, and WOW, was it limber then! I think all that initial cracking really got it flexible, compared to it's initial feel. Just a thought, Bink, not only will YOU get better, but so apparently does the whip - as if it's got some sort of 'break in' period, that I wasn't really hitting until Holly taught me how to really crack it loud!

Hey, Adam (Winrich), if you're still following this...a couple folks asked why you use a wide fall, instead of a thinner, rounder one. I didn't know. Care to shed any light on that? It almost looks like folks could split it in half and have a backup fall! (No, I'm not going to change it...it's working, why mess with it? )

I actually did this to my fall and tapered it a bit aswell as cutting the cracker slit away and thereby attaching the cracker with a knot instead. It worked better for me and I feel it cracks easier than with the original config. That's just me though, always tampering with stuff.

Hmmmm... I wouldn't have a clue, so I'm keeping mine the way it is! And I'm finding my IOAB whip is limbering up quite nicely the more I crack it. In fact, I was out in the country at my wife's parents' yesterday where I usually get the chance to crack, and I had a good time of it! I'm finally starting to get some really loud cracks with it. The first really loud one I did caused me to emit a miniacal laugh I was so impressed with myself! I could even hear it echo across the countryside and off distant buildings.

Then came the geese. In the U.S. it's illegal to shoot Canadian geese. HOWEVER, there is no law saying you can't crack your whip around them. So here comes a huge formation of these birds flying overhead when I start cracking my wip loudly at them. MAN, you should've seen 'em! They started squalking louder and flying faster--much faster. It's as if they were saying "Fasterfasterfaster!!!! Keep flying faster! GOGOGOGOGOGO!!!!"

The assumption is that it's illegal to kill one of these birds, since one species of this goose is on the endangered list, but I don't think the law says anything specifically about whipping the birds...

It really was pretty funny, though. You should've seen those birds hussle!

Hey Jerry,

I cut the fall wide to help make it more durable. With the IOAB bullwhip, I didn't intend it for jaw-dropping accuracy when cracking, although I'm sure a person could get pretty accurate with it. The thinner fall would be more accurate, but it would be more prone to break, especially since the whip itself is so heavy and exerting quite a force on the fall.

Pretty much all of my other whips have thin/round falls.

Also, Jerry R. just listed the dark brown IOAB bullwhip on the EBay. This was the first true IOAB bullwhip, even before Indiana Jerry helped me get the name of the whip straight.

Thanks for the info, Adam - that makes a lot of sense! Built for a demographic...if someone's buying a budget whip, chances are he's still learning. Good idea.

And folks can always graduate to a thinner fall on their own, like Swindiana. (I'll have to wait a while on that!)
