The return of the J. Crew "Rugged"

Post by Shawnkara »

I just got the new J. Crew catalogue today. It seems that the Rugged is back in the rotation. The bad news? They're listed at the original $148.00 price point. Hard to believe they ever retailed for that much. They're nice boots, I love mine, but they honestly feel like something you'd buy at Payless. They also have a "leather dress desert boot" for $158.00. VERY Indy-ish but no moch toe. And they have a "calfskin leather ankle boot" for $118.00. Very similar to the "desert" but they have the moch toe. The only draw back is they appear to have the extra vertical seam over the toe. None of these are pictured in the right color and no options are listed. But since their boots always seem to have color options you may want to call about it. Perhaps they didn't have room in the catalogue to list the choices.

I've loved mine and they hold up well to the abuse that I give them.
Don't worry too much about the $148 price; in the spring they'll drop
just like they did last year. Then I'll pick up another pair for 60 or 40
bucks.

I've looked at those in person. Nice boots, but no lining/insulation. That's the only drawback, for me.

Are the AE comfy? I realize they're not Aldens but do you think the AE are comfortable enough for a good hike or walkabout?

I picked up the J.crew rugged boots. I had a j crew gift card burning a hole in my pocket so I went with these. They look great. With pants covering the upper part of the boot, they look downright civilized. The color is great and are comfortable. If these go on sale, i'd say there are a definite buy.

Those AE boots look pretty nice. I wonder if they have a low top version.

Just resurecting this old thread because it appears that JCrew has already
sold out of the Rugged Boots! :(
Not knowing if more are on the way makes me wonder if we'll ever see
those great Spring clearance deals again. Too bad...they really are a very
good boot for general knocking around in. But full retail is too much $$$.

J Crew Boot

I bought the boots before Xmas - they are a great fit right out of the box. If you can get a pair you would not regret it.
