Indy Gun Project Underway! - Grips ready!

The Indygun project is underway. The gun has been dis-assembled and the molding process has begun. I had a slight delay in getting this project going as I was swamped for Halloween! For those that are not aware of the roots of this endeavor, you can read more about it here.

This will be the definitive prop for the Indy fan who may not have access to the real thing, or who doesn't want to carry their REAL gun into public!

The plan is to offer this as a completed replica, not a kit, so it will be ready to go when you get it!

Just to show the quality of the work being performed, here are a few teasers of the first set of grips. These are exact replicas and will fit your S & W #2 perfectly for those that may need replacements. I will have the black versions done soon and will also post pics of them. The intent is for people to not be able to look at this gun and tell the replica from the real thing. Unlike other resin or rubber replicas you may have seen, attention to detail will be the utmost factor in the production of this piece, and an authentic, realistic look will be the result. 1 set of the below grips are real, one is replica. Just for fun, I will not reveal the real from the reps just yet.

Well I for one can not tell. I think you did an awesome job. I can not tell which are mine and which are copies.

I'll say that mine are on top.

I would gladly offer a pizza (an italian one though lol) in the case I am wrong

Offhand, I'd say that the top ones are the authentic grips, due to the aged condition of the medallions, whereas the gold on the lower set of grips possess a newer, more consistent patina.

I was thinking the same for two reasons, one, the medallions look more evenly aged in the top set as you mentioned, and two, although I may be imagining it or mistaking what I'm seeing in that pic, it looks like the scoring or depression in the lower edges of the right pieces where the darker natural grain is look more pronounced/natural in the top set, whereas in the bottom set they seem just slight smoother and dulled.

But man, I'm REALLY reaching here and might just be seeing a difference caused by their differing relative angles to the lightsource! If you hadn't asked us to scour them I'd say they are identical, and I certainly wouldn't poke at excellent craftsmanship like this!

P.S. I can appreciate if this is far too soon to be certain, but do you have a ballpark estimate of what these replicas will cost?

I told my wife about these pics last night. I was telling her that it was so close, I couldn't tell which were the real deal. If I had to guess, I would say the top is the real ones, but I wouldn't be surprised if I was wrong.

I think the medallions on top are shinier on the high parts and darker in the grooves which is the way things with lots of nooks and grannies naturally distress. Also, on the top grip on the left, the bottom of the grip looks like wood that has been handled a lot to me. Of course it could just be the lighting.

The top ones are real. The checkering appears to be more defined and the metal screw liners in the holes are actually there.
