Does anyone have any info on the LC young indy whip? On Indygear, they say it eas made by Swayne, Adney & Briggs. Who exactly is Swayne, Adney & Briggs? Do they have a website, or are they out of buisness? Where can I get a replica of it? I hope some one can help me out. It dosn't give any info. on it at indygear. thanx

They were the carriage whip makers by appointment to the royals since King George III. And then in 1943 they became Swaine Adeney Brigg. Currently they are a source for some quite exquisite high-end umbrellas, luggage, hip flasks, etc. Rumor has it that they still makes some whips and crops for the equestrian market.
But there is also another rumor or readings that I exactly can't remember the exact source but by memory only for now, but Swayne Adney was one of the companies originally tasked to be the source for "Raiders" whips. Yes, I said Raiders. Glen Randall being the influential figure for the stunt work, had in his own stash of David Morgan whips, his personal favorite. So essentially the Swayne Adney whips were dead on arrival and sitting in inventory at the prop department all the way by the time LC production started. They sat in inventory until LC started and were redyed for the movie. But this is where it gets interesting, this Swayne Adney whip, from rumor, was too originally sourced from David Morgan. The only difference was the dye job.
Here is the picture of the LC whip used by River Phoenix. It is in my eye, a very definitive David Morgan whip (excluding the dye job & the missing wrist loop). The knots are the give away as well as the strand widths. Those two design elements are the major signature points of a David Morgan visually. The other major give away is that this is definitely an "American Bullwhip". An American Bullwhip is quite unique, where Aussies have their own version and the Brits, well they were not privy to this unique design that was quite distinctive and solely came from North American roots.
And Sab, good question. According to the above information that I researched, Swayne does not make these anymore. If they do they are for the equistrian market, and not bullwhips. And besides it was outsourced from Morgan. So either way, if you want something like you saw in LC used by River, you might as well order it from David Morgan and dye it.
I hope this helps.

My best guess, 5.5 to 6 feet tops. And I guess-timated that to be assuming a 6 inch cracker length. From there I extrapolated from butt of handle to end of braid, to be around 6 feet. Also notice that the fall had a knot in it. Who knows, River may have unintentionally whipped that knot there. The other way to do it, is assuming that there is an 8 inch nail spike in the handle foundation. Then adding another 4 inches to get at the 12 inch mark, and then it looks like the same length of 5.5 to 6 feet.Indiana Texas-girl wrote:How long do you think this whip is?

Man Sergei you are in deep. Even the non-Morgan Indy whip was a Morgan!! I think it is wild that a British company with a reputation like Swame, Adney would outsource like this. To me it's like having Tiffany do silver work for Bailey, Banks and Biddle.
To think that before I started with his site, not all that long ago, I did not even know David Morgan made the Indy whips. I am much more well rounded. Keep of the good work Sergei! Any more news on IV?
Thanks
