Two thoughts: I probably haven't done it enough to REALLY work the muscles, or maybe it's only some of the harder cracks that cause that. The other thought is I perhaps I already do use these muscles - I've been doing a LOT of yoga lately.
No, really, I do, and it's the upper-body series of the Sun Salutations sequence (downward-facing dog, plank, crocodile, upward-facing dog, repeat) that really works the shoulders, traps, triceps, and delts...but go ahead, jump all over that one...I know I've got it coming to me...
EDIT: As an afterthought, for anybody w/ soreness from whipcracking...try yoga?
