L L Bean shirt.

Post by Indiana Croft »

Any one who's been thinking about getting a shirt from LL Bean, go for it. I ordered two on Sunday, they came on Wednesday. Washed one, wore it that day and it's comfortable. Don't get me wrong I have a Wested as well but I don't want to wear that one to work (some times I have to mix paint) it's just to nice and expensive to wear there, I wear the Wested when I'm going out or for weddings or just bumming around with the familt. But the LL Bean (tan) is a great shirt and if I get paint on it, no big deal I'm only out $39.00.
The color is a little darker than the Wested and the buttons are to dark.
The buttons I can change and the color I can live with. It's just awsome to finally get a tan colored shirt w/epaulets. Looks good with my new Wested Goat and Aldens.
I know of others who have sung the praises of this shirt as a choice of a Indy like shirt thats a little more afordable.
Follow the link to the LL Bean site for a pic.

Yes, its very comfortable, and I enjoy it. It makes for a good over shirt on windy days, or on the beach at night.

As I've said elsewhere, I love the new colors. Everyone knows that this is all I want for Christmas.

I love this shirt, as most of you know. I recently bought a tan XL Tall and it is great. Let me throw my official endorsement for the LL Bean shirt (for what it's worth!).

How's the fit? Hows the shrinkage? I'm right between an XL and L.

The fit is a little baggy, because it is an outdoorsman's shirt designed for hunting. It is, therefore, very comfortable. If you're between a L and XL, I would follow their sizing chart and see where you fall on it. You can always send it back. As for shrinking, keep it out of the dryer and you should be fine.

This is great. Is there a color that closely matches the Indy shirt color or will I need to dye it?

Tan is your closest bet. The picture looks orangey, but the one I received was a true tan, a bit darker than an Indy shirt. See Dalexs' tutorial on how to lighten it, if you want to get it a bit closer. Good luck!

I already have the Cabela's, and just received the Llbean. In my opinion, I would say Cabela's is by far the best. Here are some comparisons I noted, after washing the shirt a couple times:

Bean: All cotton. WILL shrink. If you like to iron constantly, go for this one. The tan is not screen accurate, and if this is important to you, either plan on dying it or don't get it. The buttons are way too dark. The feel of it is slightly scratchy, not as soft as I thought it would be (perhaps after a few washes it will be). Great shirt, but in comparison to CABELA's, it doesn't come close.

Cabela's: Polyester/Cotton blend. Will not shrink. Can pull it out of the dryer and throw it on without ironing. The 'stone' color is SPOT ON. Really is not any hotter than a bean a stated many times, but doesn't breathe as well. The feel of it is much softer that the Bean. I also accidently spilled some coffee on it and let it dry, and it came right out in a standard wash cycle. The only accuracy problem in comparison would be the fact it isn't 100% cotton.

Like I said, just my observations. I recently ordered a Wested Jacket, and I think I might spend the long distance charge and add a shirt to the purchase. The problem is, I can't get over the YELLOW LOOK these have! If it is the same color as the Cabela's shirt, I am all over it! Anybody have both?

I agree, the Cabelas is indistructable. I spilled paint on it and the stain came right out. If you only are going to buy one shirt the Cabela would be my choice. The stone color is perfect. That said, I have the LLB shirts too. The style is a bit different and they are well made. Gives another option when reaching for a safari type shirt.

Texas Jones,

I have all three shirts you mentioned. The Bean shirt is much darker than the other two, but it is a very nice shirt. The Wested and the Cabelas are very close in color, but the Wested is slightly more yellow.

I don't think that ironing a shirt was ever much of an issue with Indy when he was out in the field. If he ever did iron it, then he wasn't very good at it.
